This is from a page at the [email protected] web site:

The current [email protected] search will wind down over the next year or so. However, we are working on new projects that will continue to use the computer power of millions of volunteers to further SETI and other scientific research. Our plans include the following:

Our Australian teammates will undoubtedly take lots of pride in participating in the Southern hemisphere client. ;)

Yes I think that I've mentioned before about Parkes comin' online soon and with its 13 focal points it'll be able to gather more data in less time plus cover a larger area than the Arecibo unit.

so with seti winding down, will we switch to folding or will we switch to a new project if there is one? hopefully we will switch to a new project so that we can start fresh.

We can go in whichever direction we wish. I, for one, will head for the new version of [email protected] when it arrives.

Affirmative. Everyone will start out from scratch. That will make things more interesting. We've got interesting times ahead. ;)

I wonder how the new WU's will stack up compared to the old Seti? I wonder if they are going to be about the same size and such??I just hope I catch and pass Kane before the old one runs out!!!! it would suck to be in 3rd grrrrrrrr:?: I am also happy that they have decided to let us choose what our computers are analyzing! Anyone have any idea when this is supposed tocome online? it said early '03...and we are past mid '03 now....hhhmmmm

Thay projected a start of [email protected] client for BOINC in October of 2003 and the start of Southern hemisphere client in January of 2004, but the schedule is subject to change. The [email protected] data server is projected to end at the beginning of November of 2003, so there will be a gap before the Southern hemisphere client starts.

A third new client AstroPulse (on BOINC) is projected to kick off December of 2003. And I quote from their page: "NOTE: This timeline is only an estimate and is subject to change."

So, as you noted, we have a choice of clients. Other details have not been provided. : peace:

ok i know that we all love the way that seti crunches and the utilities that go along with it, and also the competition that goes along with it. seeing that we have a folding team now and that it goes to a good cause, would you all consider going to folding when seti runs out? afterall we would still be together and it is a fresh start anyone?

As I stated here (http://forums.tweaktown.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=163851#post163851), I'd be goin' over to the southern hemishere project (which I'd start the TT Team myself this time) but my Linux trails maybe goin' to Foldin'@home if they have a suitable Linux client.

I will be stickin with Seti, I might devote a machine or two to the Folding but I will have to check it out and see if its worth the power consumption, if not then back to seti! been doing it for over a year and I should have started ages before....

Another reason I'll mainly stay with [email protected] is that it keeps a constant load on the CPU and suits my stress testin' on new PC's with 3DMark '01SE loops.

Boy, I read the changes that will be made to SETI, and honestly....I'm not sure which way I'll go. They mentioned chucking the W/U structure, and although it wasn't completely accurate, given widely varying W/U sizes, it sure is fun. Don't they pay attention to the "friendly competition" that goes on? The different sizes of W/Us throws a random element in there that's kinda fun when you first start, but later averages out.
Well, ATM I'm undecided.....someone sway me with reasons for one over the other. My inertia may keep me doing SETI, but I have considered Folding, as my family would be more likely to contribute.

Well, ATM I'm undecided.....someone sway me with reasons for one over the other. My inertia may keep me doing SETI, but I have considered Folding, as my family would be more likely to contribute. 1) I will pay you lots and lots of (monopoly) money
2) I wont hack your comp and steal your porn collection
3)I'll convince Beefy and Jedi to never send you to Canada
4)I wont tell the RIAA you are the sole reason p2p got started and you upload 1 TB of music every week
5)...haven't had enough coffee to think of something else atm...

nah, all I can say is that you could be doing humanity a service by crunching folding (a service that I could personally benifit from) ...not to mention we really need some more people on the team :cackle: Oh, and I'll buy you a beer if we ever meet ;)

*[email protected] will also keep a full load on your CPU, but you can also set it up to use whatever % of the CPU you wish ...this makes it easier to run seti at the same time if you feeling like running both

1) I will pay you lots and lots of (monopoly) money
Hmmmm, I do like winning at Monopoly....

[B]2) I wont hack your comp and steal your porn collection
My abysmal porn collection would cause you to commit to a life of celibacy as you'd fall into a black hole of despair and self-loathing at the complete dearth of any titillation whatsoever...

[B]3)I'll convince Beefy and Jedi to never send you to Canada
Wow....ya got me on that one....I was actually going to MOVE to Canada last year, and stayed there for two weeks before finally breaking out of the coma-like stupor that was preventing me from having any grasp of the reality of what the hell I was thinking! Of course, that threat is moot as for certain undisclosed reasons....I can't go back to Canada. It was scary though...kinda like my porn collection

[B]4)I wont tell the RIAA you are the sole reason p2p got started and you upload 1 TB of music every week
Perhaps you could, but once again, my taste in music is so poor, they'd drop the case out of sheer pity, and more than likely deprogramming themselves by listening to Top 40 stations 24/7 while strapped into a straightjacket with toothpicks holding their eyes open to watch nothing but MTV....

[B]5)...haven't had enough coffee to think of something else atm...
You can never have too much coffee...but not enough is sheer hell..;)

[B]6)You could be doing humanity a service by crunching folding (a service that I could personally benefit from) ...not to mention we really need some more people on the team :cackle: Oh, and I'll buy you a beer if we ever meet ;)
BEER!?!?!?...NOW yer talkin'....

[B]7)*[email protected] will also keep a full load on your CPU, but you can also set it up to use whatever % of the CPU you wish ...this makes it easier to run seti at the same time if you feeling like running both
Hmmmmmm....now there's a thought....But naaah. I'll just choose one or the other....at least til I can build that dual-proccy machine I'm dreaming of...*sigh*
OK, any others?

Looks like we'll have lots of TweakTown Teams to join as there'll be at least 3 SETI clients to choose from, eventually. :knife:

PS: I'll double the quantity of BEER that minibubba offers you, if you stay with SETI, whichever one we go with that is.

The [email protected] client for BOINC (http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/setifuture.html) should get going first, so I'm sure I'll try that before jumping to the Southern hemisphere client.

OK, any others? I don't know about seti, but folding has clients for all 3 major OS's...Linux, mac, and Windows so if you every switch you can keep crunching

Ill whoop your ass in SETI......... only problem with that is it's hard to compare seti WUs to folding WUs ...unless you compare a folding score to a seti WU count, then that might be a better way to compare
