View Full Version : Oops! speeding

I just got cought doing 9k's over the speed limit... I was over taking over a hill and about 800m away they were sitting, lots of them, checking cars, etc and it was too late for me to even slow down.

They said they could have taken away 3 points but they only took away 1 and the fine was much less - so it's not too bad.

Silly me! :o :( :hmph:

I've got two fines for doing 6k's over the limit.. Wasn't happy, but it was my fault. The whole young excuse works for a good 20 years too. :)

I have been caught once, the fine was $120 us bucks and that was a few years ago.. :shh:

BTW In Finland which lies next to Sweden they are deciding the size of your fine money by how mutch your income is.. So if you earn alot then ya pay alot for those kinds of crimes.. :hammer:

You Mexicans have a lot to put up with speed trap wise, I was in Melbourne for a week earlier this month and I have NEVER seen so many speed cameras and cops behind trees with radar guns.

Your 80km areas on Citylink and freeways must be a big earner for the government?

i was doing 120mph in 55zone, 3 lanes of traffic, didnt notice the cop in the right lane  he only clocked me at 90 tho :D

Also you should see the face of a cop as I was sliding (drifting) around a curve, I wasnt speeding but he still wasnt too happy with me. :flames:

Good question. Not many cars'll do that speed these days. Unless you got some megabucks!

BTW, no moving violations for me. Just a parking ticket or two. I drive plenty fast though. Of course, alot faster in my younger days! ;)

I have 8 demerit points left out of 12 (lost 4 this year) which is supposed to last me another 2 years for a total of 3.

I don't think I have any other choice but to slow down... :sleepy:

Mr.Tweak

When you get your car drivers licence you get demerit points, in VIC you get 12 of them (not sure about other states).

For speeding and other road related offences you loose points depending on how serious you break the law. Once you loose all your points, your licence is taken away for a certain amount of time depending on what you did.

cool, thanks Mr. T ...that makes much more sense now :)

Same here in NSW, the amount of points lost increase with the severity of the offence.

EG, up to 15kms over the limit , loss of one point
EG, more than 50km over the limit, bye bye licence.

There's stuff in between those but I dont know exactly.

Thx for clearing that up about those points as I was wondering about them myself to..

In Sweden you loose the licence if driving 30km/h over the limit. And the fine is often $10 usd per km you exceed the limit. That's why I got $120 in fine for doing 62km/h on a 50 road..

My only offense though, except for a couple of parking tickets..

minibubba
09-03-2003, 02:25 PM
wow... it seems that other places are very strict on drivers. Around here you can easily get away with 5 mph over, sometimes even 10. It is very rare that I hear of someone that gets a ticket for less than 6 mph over the limit

Beefy
09-03-2003, 02:29 PM
Depending who catches you, a lot of policemen I know will let people off unless they are doing 7km/h+ over the limit. Unless you get caught by a camera. Nothing can stop that. :(

i got done for 70 in a 60zone a few months back. Camera got 158 ppl in 1 hr, was on a hill where the 80 zone starts at the bottom.

I just got my permit, and sometimes you don't even know your speeding! It just feels like thats the speed you should be going. Unfortunatly the speed that I 'feel' is right is often 5-10 mph over the speed limit :/ I better learn how to drive slower...

SileNceR
11-11-2003, 06:48 AM
You had to get done eventually cam just lucky it wasn't over 200k/h ;)

I've got 6 demerits left thanks to my lack of judgement doing 141km/h in a 100km/h zone... :-/

$360AUD fine too

Yeah... and considering today I took a Toyota Soarer for a test drive today it's not a good thing really since these beasts have a top end speed of 300km/h.

Decided not to buy - not what I expected.

Soarer's in their native form are luxury cruisers. They are now known as the Lexus SC400.

The V8 has power, but power for cruising with ease. The V8 also only comes in Automatic flavor for this reason.

The TT has more power than the V8. They are also extremely responsive to modifications, easy to gain heaps of extra power. Coupled with a manual transmission they are a very quick cruising car.

If you want quick, take a TT supra for a spin :D

Go check out Sports and Luxury cars in Ferntree Gully.

Craig Dean is the manager and races in Targa in his Supra and Supercharged V8 soarer.

Decent bloke that knows what his stuff :thumb:

Supra TT and Soarer have the same engine, right?
BTW Drift Kning also races the Soarer. A nice sight in a place full of AT86 (toyota corolla) and Silvias.

.

Nope

The Supra TT has the 2JZ-GTE 3.0 Litre 6cyl DOHC Twin Turbo
The Soarer TT has the 1JZ-GTE 2.5 Litre 6cyl DOHC Twin Turbo

The 2JZ is a very nice engine, capable of some serious power.

As with most cars, in stock form they are fairly sedate compared to what they can really do with a bit of work :)

I just heard from TV (BBC World, Top Gear), that there is no speed limits on the Isle of man! (an island near the Great-Britain, thatīs where rugbydude lives ;) ) Thatīs so unfair. I truly envy those TV speakers who were testing the BMW Z4, BMW M3 and Porsche 911 there (among other cars).

Not a good idea getting a twin turbo considering you can't drive it for another 2 years. It would look pretty sitting in your garage though :p
