  • HP to intro low voltage Itanium II workstation Monday

I guess Itanium is sill out chugging along ;) http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=11412

AS WE REPORTED earlier this week, Intel will formally introduce its LV (low voltage) Itanium II on the 7th of September.
And one of the first off the starting blocks to sell machines using the LV Itanium will be Hewlett Packard, the firm has confirmed.

On Monday the 8th, HP will introduce its ZX 2000 workstation using the LV Itanium 2 speeding along at 1GHz and with 1.5MB L3 cache.

HP will claim the machine will give a 10 per cent increase in application performance, and said it will introduce entry level servers based on these chips early next year.

One of the purposes of the LV Itanium III workstations is to debug applications for larger Itanium systems.

The firm said the machines might be used for technical or commercial applications, or in Itanium 2 clusters. The workstation supports HP/UX LIV2, RHAT Linux 2.1 for Itanium, and Windows XP 64-bit Edition 2003.

No details of pricing are available at press time
