PHP is pretty easy, any book should be fine, and if all else fails, PHP for dummies is great.

have you tried a search on google (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=php+help&btnG=Google+Search)? there seems to be a good amount on free online help.

php.net has a good starting tutorial and explanation of how things work.

If you're familiar with any programming language (especially C), PHP is very easy to pick up. Failing that, "PHP for Developers" by Blake Schweidmann is excellent.

PHP Bible 2nd Ed. by Tim Converse & Joyce Park is also good :)

haven't gone all the way through it yet, i'm up to about half way :o
