USA / Canada have rugby teams?!?! What the!!

11-08-2003, 07:08 AM
Yes its here and we have already reached the quarter finals:D 20 teams entered but only 8 remain after a grueling set of group matches. Tommorow 4 of the best rugby nations in the world will meat in matchs that will determine the best from lieterally the best; first we have the mighty New Zealand all blacks one of the favourties to win the world cup against the South African Springboks, the most improved team in the world cup this year. After that we have the home nation Australia taking on the mighty Scottish team who have shown some great skill this year. I would greatly appretiate any input about the world cup and your views on who will win these matches, i'm going to write a match to match report and i hope some of you will contribute:thumb:

South Africa are out of the world cup. Although a great effort by South Africa in the first half to attack the all blacks they were no match for the speed of the NZ backs. One look at the last try of the match by Rokocoko is enough to show you the skill of the NZ team, with backs this strong i have no doubt they will make it to the final:beer:
I would like to take this time to say that was the last match that Joost van der Westhuizen will play for South Africa, the last player who remains from the SA team that won the world cup:(

rugbydude: I've posted all the results over here (http://forums.tweaktown.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=13823) as well. Can't wait for tomorrows games, both live on ITV1, missed the NZ vs SA game because it was on ITV2. Threads merged. ;)

Sorry bout that i've been away for a week:rolleyes: Anyway back to the rugby.

First match of today and a strong irish team walked onto the pitch feelin strong and walked off feeling weak after a fast and efficient French team left with a 43-21 victory.
Next we had England against Wales. And i must confes i was more than expecting England win but after the first half i was sitting on the edge of my seat. Wales seem to have found their strength after the great match against New Zealand last week and put everything into the match today. England just managed to stock up the points in the second half and left with a rather close 28-17.

So what does the leave us, that leaves us with the two european sides taking on each other and the two southern hemisphere teams going head to head, France V England and New Zealand against Australia in what looks to be a great set of semi final matches:D

11-09-2003, 10:05 PM
rugbydude: Based on these latest games, I would say France vs New Zealand for the Final. But this is the World Cup and anything can happen, good luck with your semi-final against France.

11-09-2003, 10:58 PM
I'm gonna stick by england, although they've been as bit off form i'm sure they can pull themselves together:thumb:

11-10-2003, 12:08 AM
Who hasn't been out of form of late? :cantfocus
But I'm expection' an Aussie vs. France final but then ya never know with these pansy codes.

11-15-2003, 07:16 PM
N.Z. out!

Who's next?

11-16-2003, 05:10 AM
i was amazed by the way australia played today, they attacked australia like men possesed:D i was completly shocked that new zealand lost but on to the final australia go. LEts just hope its england against them in the final:thumb:

11-16-2003, 05:30 AM
rugbydude: This New Zealand World Cup Team like the one before it (1999) is an embarrassment to our country, and in my view has no business wearing the All Black jersey. Today they were beaten by the worst Wallabies side I have seen in a long time, but good luck to them, they knuckled down and got the job done. The All Blacks have become a second class (making up the numbers) team, and in my opinion should not take part in future World Cup Competitions.

11-16-2003, 08:31 AM
I think that ya bein' a bit hard on the All Blacks there weta and they did make it to the play offs (16 other teams didn't). :(
The Aussies just decided to start playin' like they should've done from the beginin' (they've been copin' heaps of flack over their recent form).

11-16-2003, 07:05 PM
Well France couldn't keep their good form goin' so it's the Aussies vs. the Poms in the final.

11-16-2003, 07:16 PM
Wiggo: Sorry mate but I have to disagree with you on this one, if you were a New Zealander you might understand. If I had actually written what I felt and still feel, then I would probably have been banned from here.

11-16-2003, 11:05 PM
I have to agree thast the new zealand team is nothing like it used to be:( anyway i guess wiggo was wrong as the french could not compete against the might of the english:D Bring on the final:thumb:

11-20-2003, 07:05 PM
Another poor performance by New Zealand, this time against France, sees them leave RWC 2003 in third place. Let's hope the rumours are true and New Zealand won't be taking part in any future World Cup Competitions, time will tell.

11-21-2003, 03:05 AM
unfortunatly i didn't have time to watch the match but i heard it wasn't very spectacular, i was too busy with a match of my own which i'm glad to say we won:thumb:

11-21-2003, 03:14 AM
Another poor performance by New Zealand Ya jokin' arn't ya?
I think that ya bein' far too critical now of ya own team now as the game looked very good to me though I am some what pissed now (3rd is much better than last).

11-21-2003, 04:42 AM
Wiggo: If you have enough beers even Georgia and Namibia will start to look good. :thumb:

11-21-2003, 04:46 AM
No way as those teams played like a bunch of girls on a picnic.

But we'll see if the Aussies can keep up their recent good form and shut the poms' plays down as well as they did you Kiwis. :devil win

11-21-2003, 05:03 AM
Wiggo: Unlike New Zealand, England has someone who can kick the ball, this will impact on the game. Either team can win on the day, but only one will. There's one London cabbie who will be praying it's Australia. Why, because he stands to collect nearly $250,000 (AUS) if they do.

11-21-2003, 05:13 AM
He's goin' to be a rich cabbie then. ;)

after 28hrs of bein' awake I think that I'll get the kids off to school and go to bed :sleepy:

11-22-2003, 07:36 PM
how come you rugby gurus are late in posting
i was reading abt it on BBC and seems mighty Aussies couldn't take the form to the end.
Australia 17-20 England (Final Score)

11-22-2003, 07:43 PM
Well actually yes the poms did win but we pushed them almost right to the end of 20 mins of extra time and was very close to bein' another extra 10mins (wasn't as easy as the BBC made out).

11-22-2003, 07:51 PM
Well actually yes the poms did win but we pushed them almost right to the end of 20 mins of extra time and was very close to bein' another extra 10mins (wasn't as easy as the BBC made out). actually they say that England scored win in between 99th or 100th minute. i don't know how long the game is for but there was nothing after it so i guess both teams pushed till the end. isn't it?

11-22-2003, 07:56 PM
Generally 2 x 40min halves but an extra 2 x 10min halves were added due to the scores bein' locked and yes England only won in the dyin' sec's of that last 10min half. As I said it was very close to another extra 10mins.

11-23-2003, 12:35 AM
CLOSE!!!! England dominated the second half and should have had aty least another three tries. :D oh well it doesn't matter if you win by a point or 100 winning's winning:thumb:

11-23-2003, 06:33 AM
Oh well at least we showed the poms how to play rugby league with a 3-0 whitewash in the footy ashes even though the poms were in front in the last half and we had to contend against a one sided ref as well. :D

All I can say is you Aussies don't have the golden boot of Wilkinson. (mind you credit goes to the rest of the England team as well).

orginally posted by rugbydude

Yes history will tell ENGLAND won the world cup, not that Australia pushed them to the final kick of the game.

Wiggo: I've been reading a few articles about rugby in New Zealand, seems support for the sport is dying quite quickly now, crisis is a word being mentioned quite a lot. Whilst I love the game (started playing at 5yrs of age), I don't see the point of NZ continuing to field what is quickly becoming a "second class" side.

12-09-2003, 02:27 AM
New zealand were once a great team and i have full faith that if they keep with it they will once again be great:thumb:
