  • farken sony cdrw drives sux

well. ok after recent format from disasters with xp (ie: corrupt profiles and stuff so badly that no changes would save, scanner software killing registry on first reboot = format, ms intellimouse explorer cable coming loose and turning mouse off every 5 seconds) i discovered that my cdrw has a tendency to occasionally (read: always) crash my pc as well.

happens when i try to burn to a cd + when i try to copy files from cd to hdd

    stop error = BAD_POOL_CALLER

can someone please tell me what is going on?

    system:
duron 800@1000 (hsf's a thermoengine -the noisier one)
    abit kt7a-raid
256 mb pc133 (crappy winbond stuff)
ibm 70gxp 46gb hdd (dies from bad sectors constantly)
    sb live oem
    sony 10/4/32 cdrw (CRX145E)
    aopen 300w psu
    netcomm inmodem
hercules 32mb gf2 mx (original flavour) @ stock
m$ intellimouse explorer (in repairs) (heh pt to note:using an el cheapo chinese mouse with a non scrolling scroll wheel, branded SPERM - not a typo)

Before you start blaming your CD-RW for your troubles, try NOT OVERCLOCKING. 2nd: what are you using to burn the CD's? The XP burning stuff? Nero? EZ CD Creator?

ahhh yes i forgot to add this
ok, i had the windows xp cd burner update installed, and i figured that mite be a prob, so i removed it (hotfix no 309691 btw) and now it copies more than b4 to the hdd but it still crashes like hell
            actual error msg is:
            BAD_POOL_CALLER
            stop:0x000000c2 (0x00000007, 0x00000CD4, 0x00000000, 0xE1A61008

                Yo` interesting, i`m using a Sony 8x4x32
on XP pro, and Nero software with no prob`s.
Is your Burner set as Master on the 2nd ide strap, Sony like`s to be the Master, and if you share with a CD player is does not like it.

                Hope this help`s.:D

I have sold hundreds of sony drives and have only ever had 1 faulty, as Rampart said they do like to be Master on the 2nd ide strap.
If you think it probably the drive and its still in warranty and yer in or close to melbourne then contact Collins Electronics on (03)9889 8080. they are Sonys repair people, they will usually test the drive then replace it if its found faulty, depending on how old the model is ya may get a newer model replacement. BUT if they find the drive is not faulty, they may charge you for the time they spent testing it.

well, if u say u used every burn proggy - what were you using first - and have u checked to see if its not a problem to do with a file called "wnaspi32.dll" in your system, windows,or program directories??
