Yes but the n00b still has to install the worm by hand, there are no linux email clients that will auto run an attachment...untill M$ port outlook that is. An email virus scaner for linux is nothing more than an attempt by the company that markets it to scam money from clueless users. The only place where linux needs a virus scanner is where an email server is deployed and there are plenty of open source ones already.
Point taken, but I am still to this day surprised at the STUPIDITY of some n00b's - despite all the warnings they will try and install something dodgy. This is the market I feel Norman is targetting.
Besides - you're free to choose what software you use, aren't you? ;)
Good point, but a totaly clueless n00b is going to install a compromised package no matter what because a virus scanner won't detect a root kit, which is the main danger for a linux box. The fact that there are no virii for linux makes a scanner, especially one that you pay for, a marketing trick if not a direct scam.
Well in the interest of security ( personally, I don't feel the word security even should be utilized in a discussion about computers ) redundancy is your best defense.
So it would stand to reason that running an operating system that is all but immune to virii, in conjunction with an anti-virus program, would make you just about fool-proof. LOL
Kinda' like those companies here in the USA that sell credit card insurance for $60 annually - when all you are liable for by law is the first $50 of fraud.
(darn - why didn't I think of that??)
The reason a diamond shines so brightly is because it has many facets which reflect light.
