    UNIX
    freeBSD
    Mac OS X
    DOS (several flavors)
    Novell

that's all the common ones I can think of (aside from the many flavors of M$ Windows and Linux) at the moment

BeOS can still be found, but I don't think it is being supported much anymore. :(

I wouldn't consider stuff like SymbianOS, PalmOS, or WindowsCE a normal operating system, in the sense that you can't really put them on a desktop or a laptop and use them as your main operating system.

Another operating system: IBM's OS/2 Warp

Who said anything about desktop OSes? Novell is definitely not a desktop OS, but it's still here. :)

Lindows is just Linux with "eye-candy" and a few tweaks mate :)

As far I know there is NO Mac OS running on x86 it's always been on Motorola or IBM PPC chips.

Some time in the 90's there was a rumor and a friend of a friend of a former-roomate..etc... said that he had a copy of OS 7 that ran on 486.

Well, if I'm wrong please correct be, but I'm and 99.9999- % sure I'm right.

At the company's shareholder meeting in April, however, Jobs asserted that Apple has "no plans" for a switch to Intel.
Not much of an OS if no one gets to use it.

Although having Macintosh on x86 would be cool (I never said I was totally againts Mac:) ), I doubt they'll do it. Microsoft has licenses with almost every major computer manufacturer out there preventing them from shipping computers without Windows. Since the very few users build their own computers and even they don't care much about Mac for the most part, very few people will be buying Mac OS X for x86. And even if someone gets a computer with no OS or wants Mac for some reason, most people's heads blow up as soon as you say "set the CD Drive as the boot device in your BIOS", so unless it is made so you can initiate the install process from inside Windows (which is doable), few people will want it. Of course if they continue to sell Mac with computers and find someone to build all of their new computers for them, there is no problem. I just don't see how it would really be that cost-effective for Apple to start making Mac for x86. Still, it would be cool, and I could stop using Basilisk II (Mac emulator) to play old Mac games that I still play for some reason.

I don't really know much about OS\2. I've only used RedHat Linux, Windows, and Mac. Want to expand on that thought?
