Well the system that I had issues with is the 300 celery webserver, but after trying again, I was able to install fine. But since I dont want to contribute just one unit, I will keep this maching on [email protected] till its retired for the new ITX server. After that Im not sure what the server is going to be doing.

Also I have just switched all my [email protected] crunchers to BOINC, which means that there wont be any more regular WUs from my dedicated crunchers, although there are few systems out there that are still my borgs, they are not in my control.

Hope to see all of you on BOINC

I'll just wait for my email from Berkeley as stated by the BIONC Transition Plan (http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/boinc_transition_plan.html) and "All current [email protected] teams, and their membership, will be copied over to [email protected]/BOINC".

elrado1
02-25-2004, 07:26 PM
This is from the BOINC Beta Test Getting started (http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/ap/) page:
"Credit
The project's server keeps track of how much work your computer has done; this is called credit. To ensure that credit is granted fairly, BOINC works as follows:
Each work unit may be sent to several computers.
When a computer reports a result, it claims a certain amount of credit, based on how much CPU time was used.
When at least two results have been returned, the server compares them. If the results agree, then users are granted the smaller of the claimed credits."

So, we should not be too worried about getting points in this Beta Test. Also, the points and the teams are TEMPORARY in the Beta Test. See the
Instructions for participants in the BOINC beta test (http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/ap/project/beta_test_instructions.html) for particulars.

johnerz
02-26-2004, 01:23 AM

Too bad Cheez isnt putting all his crunchers onto BOINC

Well I have to see how far ahead of you I can get in Classic. I have my fastest on Boinc right now, I am thinking about converting another one over to Boinc now, my XP2600, one main reason I am hesitant about switching them over is, I don't like the lack of flexibility in Boinc, I prefered being able to set each computer at Idle, Low, Med or High. and with this you just cant do that yet, I hope that someone writes a setiQueue type program for this, I see that they have some in the program its self, but I dont like the fact that it downloads when it is done with the Cache of WU's, I want it to download when I set it to, not when it wants to! Just because this computer is Idle doesn't mean that others on the Network are, and with a slow ass connection like mine I cant afford the drastic slow down as it pulls more WU's, and now I am stepping off of my soap box!

Wiggo

Although Wiggo has said he'll start a new team, which is a good idea. That way we can sluff off some of the old laggards. :D Well it would've been but back then SETI stated that everyone would start fresh again but now with, "All current [email protected] teams, and their membership, will be copied over to [email protected]/BOINC.", I can't see the point in startin' a new team and then have to catch up with the ourselves again.

What will happen to my workunit totals? (http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/boinc_transition_plan.html)

Because of this change, [email protected]/BOINC accounts will have separate old and new work totals. The old total is the workunit total from the current [email protected] It won't change, and a section of our web site will show the final leaderboards based on old work totals. New work unit totals will start from zero. The TT BOINC team will have a lot of members with zero points. Many more than the seven we have now. Of course, our team will not be unique.

as of yesterday, one less cruncher for me :(
It sold itself to some family that will not run it at 100% CPU usage for 6months straight. :tears:

Well, since it was a cruncher, I didnt monitor it too closely, apparently, it oppened my address book and send out an email to everyone listing the spects and saying FOR CHEAP, and ASAP.
Damn, the AI program that I had installed on them, Damn it to hell!!!!

Our BOINC Team is currently 28th in Recent Average Credit and 89th in Total Credit out of 848 teams. The numbers are 390.74 & 9347.87 respectively. Not bad for a team of only 8 members. To put things in perspective, the team with the highest RAC has 3596.00 and they also have the highest TC with 222487.04. They do have 231 members though.

Can't wait till we're out of the testing phase! :geek:

I've got 5 contributing ATM. I pulled my 1.5 P4 out a few days ago, so it can run [email protected] classic. And although BOINC shows 7 comps participating, it lists one of them twice for some reason. It may have something to do with that machine having a habbit of shutting itself down due to heat buildup. :?:

If I can catch my 3200+ B4 it finishes its cash of units and ULs another 10, I plan to pull it away to fold. Shhh. Don't tell anybody. 8)

I managed to get an XP 2200+ cruching in addition to my P4 2GHz. I can't believe im actually rising in the ranks of our team.
I'll go put Boinc on my parent's computers and stop with [email protected] Classic. I'll have five computers (but there not always on) crunching. I'm actually going to be crunching a decent amount for once. :D

Edit: Got everything set up, so I have the following crunching about 40% of the time:
P4 2GHz
Athlon XP 2200+
Celeron 1400 MHz
Celeron 2.2 GHz
Celeron 2.4 GHz
My parents don't have anything better to do with their silly celery sticks. :D

Our Recent Average Credit seems to be holding in the high 300's, which places us at a Rank of 30, but our Total Credit has climbed to 12125.25, which gives us a rank of 79 out of 864 Teams. :D
