  • College doesn't have to be boring.....

My college just got a T1 line put in, look at the transfer rate for a game patch:

Isn't it a shame when the server at the other end won't even get your connection warmed up? :D

T1 Line = 1500Kbps = 187.5KB/sec maximum, I don't think 162KB/sec is too bad with the library full of people browsing as well ;)

Really Andy? I know Optus cable can download in excess of 500KB/sec OFF OPTUS' OWN SERVERS..... but what is your usual transfer off a sluggish site like AusGamers???

My college connection, on off peak hours, it is not uncommon to peak above 1 MB/sec. Our college got a T1 connection in 1996 (so I'm told) and wasn't upgraded until 2000, and since I have asked anyone I can find (as far as res-net), (but they are all incompetant) and noone knows what exactly we have.

The best I have sustained was this 1,190 K/sec.

Albinus, I don't know your exact situation, but I would suggest that you not go around bragging about being on the connection, because if people hear that, they will persue getting on, and all of a sudden, the 187 K/sec will be chopped in 1000 pieces....

In late 99, it got so bad that we could not load a page from 3 PM - 11PM. Napster was partly to blame, but it was just as bad at times the previous year (pre-Napster era)

I usually bring my machine along at night or on Saturday when nobody is using the Internet connection - so bragging here is perfectly fine methinks :p

Well, i wasn't talking about bragging here (the forum) so much as to your real life friends.... I was assuming you lived on the campus at the college...
