View Full Version : memory for nforce2 /nforce2 ultra

I'll be buying a nforce2 or nforce2 ultra motherboard.

2 questions:

1. Is it only the nforce2 ultra that will take advantage of a pair of RAM or does it apply to both nforce2 and nforce2 ultra?

2. Would running 2x256M on the nforce2 ultra be much faster than 1X512m RAM on the nforce2.

(I'm not looking at overclocking)

With 2*256 you'll get the advantages of duel channel. I don't know how much faster only that it's faster.

Dual channel doubles the band width of your ram. So it is twice as fast.

some nforce bds have problems with only one memory module.
ultra is for ddr 400 memory [faster] and fsb 200
also try 2-2-2-11 memory timings with nforce bds...
also i'd recommand dual 512 memory for xp....unless you are using 98 or 98se

The nforce3 also takes advantage of Dueling channel ram and should also support DDR2!!! :wow:

Avast ye Scoundrel ayie! I'll swab the deck with ya...my trusty Dueling ram will learn you gued..

Dual channel doubles the band width of your ram. So it is twice as fast.

on AMD systems dual channel wont provide a 100% increase in speed. its more like 5% at most.
if you can afford it then get 2x 512mb, if you cant just get 1x 512mb then get another stick later when you can afford it.
also get DDR400 or DDR 433 as this will allow for overclocking headroom and will also alow you to run a 400mhz bus processor in the future
