  • Static electricity

I know this is super-newb territory, but I just started working on my computer myself. I searched and I couldn't find anything on the subject, what do I need to know about static electricity?

That if it discharges on one of your peripherals it can short out the circuitry. Though some technicians live by the grounding strap, I have found that if you touch the side of the case before entering it with your hands (grounding yourself out and discharging any static electricity), you'll be fine to work with the components without problems.
