Guys, I'm debating on weather to get the 9600xt or regular 9800 pro video cards. Both are priced pretty similiar at newegg so I was curious what your thoughts were on comparing the specs? Thanks all.

By the way. My current card is a Geforce 4 Ti4400. Think it's worth it? Thanks again.

The 9800 Pro is better, no question. However, the Ti4400 is no slouch, and I think you'd get a more meaningful upgrade if you can wait a little and snag an GeForce 6800 or Radeon X800 card. Of course they're more, but if you wait a couple of months, the price will drop.

Well my processor only runs at 1.9 ghz at the moment, so if I was to get the x800 xt or 6800 I would probably want to just get a new rig i think, lol. Won't i lose CPU if i put one of those high end cards into only 1.9 ghz?

Processor is Intel by the way..

The high end boards need a powerhouse to run them at their full potential. And I'll agree with Morgan, the 9800 Pro will still wipe the floor with the 9600XT. This (http://www.tweaktown.com/document.php?dType=review&dId=591) is a review I did with some Sapphire boards so you can see just how much more potent the 9800 Pro is over the 9600XT.

Any guesses on how Doom 3 will run with the 9800 pro? Because I would mainly be upgrading my system for that game alone. Along with some more RAM. :)

Thanks again.

Should work all right. I was able to get not great, but workable frame rates when the Alpha leak occurred a while back and it wasn't optimized at all. While your processor isn't a speed demon, it should also at least work with the game. I haven't seen minimum requirements so can't say for sure though.

It should run quite well. The problem is mostly your processor.

Yeah I played the alpha version leak as well and it was quite unstable. I heard the alpha version had tons of memory leaks in it anyway so i'm not really going to judge by the alpha. Guess I'll have to wait and see.
