  • DVD Question *!Urgent!*

Okay, I have just installed a Sony Double Layer DVD-R/RW drive. I am wondering whether or not an ordinary DVD-ROM will read Double Layer DVDs or if you need a special Double Layer DVD reader....

Need the answer pretty fast, thnx in advance.

One more question: Do you need special dual-layer disks (do they exist?) or can you use regular DVD-R disks?

You can use regular DVD-/+R blanks, but they will still be limited to the 4.7 gig total disc space, to get over that, you need the dual layer blanks

But in terms of backing up movies that are dual layer, you can use dvd shrink, along with dvd decrypter or dvd43 and compress the movies to fit on a single layer disc. It works great.
