I currently run a Dual Athalon MP 2600+ and a NVidia QuadroFX1000 8x AGP, but the Tyan Tiger Mb only supports 4X.

I have done some searching both here and websites to find a Mb that supports the 8X AGP but have come up with nil.

Has anyone else had better luck in this matter, who could give me some tips on what to look for?

Thanks in advance,

The difference between 4x and 8x AGP is almost nothing.

BTW its spelt "Athlon" and not "Athalon"

Yeah, after I typed it I was like duhh, Athlon, no extra A. Thanks though.

So I'm not going to recognize any difference from a 4x to an 8x board then? Why even do it besides to make more money?

Theres negligbly, a 1-2% increase, you'll never notice. 8X AGP was a marketing scam basically.

Well you won't get a 8x mainboard for the simple fact that the only chipset that supports dual MP's only suports up to 4x and to notice the difference between 4x and 8x you'll need to run benchtests (they developed 8x because 4x had reached its peak but no software yet has gone close to the max of 8x).

Exactly. If you want to stay with dual Athlon XP/MP's, AGP 4x is the fastest you'll see. Now, if it was a single CPU-based setup...yeah, you'd have more options. Still, as stated before, you're looking at very little reason for AGP 8x.

Excellent, thank everyone for the heads up.

Now the question is...what to do with my QuadroFX1000... I don't use if for graffic design, I just game, but the system came with the card. I ordered a 6600 GT AGP8 card, but not sure if I should put it in the system with Dual MP and replace the FX1000, or swap it out with the ATI 9600XT in a single 2600+ system... Any ideas?

Replace the FX1000 card with the 6600GT. Its significantly better than a 9600XT

whats the difference between the athlon XP and MP ?

how do u determine the amd speed if it says amd 2400 does that mean 2.4Ghz? they do it wierd

* in sr4470's sig......it says

Current rig: Athlon XP 2400+, 512MB Kreton DDR400, Aopen AK77-600GN, Radeon 9600 @ 450\520, 120GB UDMA133 Maxtor HD, Asus DRW1604P 16x, 400W Codegen PSU

Aopen AK77-600GN = whats that?
Radeon 9600 @ 450\520 = video card, what does the 450/520 mean?

whats the difference between the athlon XP and MP ? MP means Multi Processor meaning that these are meant for systems that use 2 processors.

how do u determine the amd speed if it says amd 2400 does that mean 2.4Ghz? they do it wierd It's a PR rating and does not directly mean the frequency the CPU runs at.

450/520 is the speed that the GPU and memory are running at on his video card.
