  • QAA vs 4XAA

Which is better QuinCunx Anti-Aliasing or 4X Anti-Aliasing. In quake 3 I'm getting 60-80 FPS with the QAA on and 40-60 with the 4XAA. Does that mean the 4X is doing a better job at smoothing my pixels?

404 here too, but I notice that the popups attached to the page still work fine.

I seem to recall having read a review comapring the two, and on closeup Quincunx looks to be much the same as 4x without the performance hit.

so for the little difference its better to use QAA to get those extra 20FPS?

well, if 40-60 fps bothers you, then yes, use QAA...

Quincunx smooths jaggies "about" as well as 4X plus reduces texture aliasing slightly. However Quincunx blurs textures a lot more.

4X gives much sharpers textures than Quincunx but is slower. You'd be best of using 2X FSAA & 32 or 64 tap anisotropic filtering if you want better image quality. Quincunx is too blurry to be considered "good"
