  • Packet Sniffer

Does anyone know where I can download a reasonably good packet sniffer? I remember finding a pretty decent one called "Sleuth" something, but I can't remember the website or the full name where to find it. If anyone has new suggestions, it would be appreciated (needs to be free or a demo version). Thanks.

I have two questions about packet sniffers.

Are the completely passive? WHat I mean is, can they be detected over a network? Is their such a thing as a packet sniffer, sniffer??

Are switched networks quickly causing packet sniffers to be ineffective due to the nature of switches? (versus hubs)

            packet sniffers are passive.

and yes switches do stuff em up, for that you need to use ARP poisoning
