  • XP stop with ultra 66

    Well, im installing Xp on a P III.
    Firstly it wouldnt find the hard drive.
    But Win98 found it. (obviously)
    Tried moving the ultra 66 ide to normal ide
    well it worked...
    why on earth would ultra 66 not work with xp????

    please inform.

    It could very well be that XP decided that there was a comunication problem (maybe leading to data corruption) at the higher rate. Some systems will setup at the higher rate and after a while XP will shift it down a gear if it thinks that there maybe a prob and this happens a lot with the DMA setting being turned off. :smokin:

      I have Ultra 66 built into my my mobo. XP didn't support the protocol on installation, but I was able to install drivers for ATA66 after I got XP up and running.

      My solution, though, was to put in an Ultra 100 controller card.
