Best Angband variant?

I'm having trouble finding the most active one(development and community wise).
ToME seems to be the most active, with the largest community, however I could have overlooked something else.
Problem is, if I play one I'm going to get hooked, I want to get hooked on the most active Angband port.

I've found ZAngband to be of interest, I don't know how active Zangband's development is anymore though.

I'm pretty sure ToME is based off one of the version of Zangband...

ToME does look to be one of the more active variants.

Ghoul Nature Monk, Specter Paladin... strange combinations but oddly powerful!
