  • 8600GTS v X1950PRO

I am currently building my new system, and my limit on a graphics card is around AUS $300. The card I have been looking at to put in my system is a Radeon X1950 Pro IceQ 3 Turbo which I can get for around $290.

However for around the same price I can get a GeForce 8600GTS, which of these is the better option. Someone mentioned to me that the 8600GTS would be better for gaming DirectX than the X1950 Pro, however, which of these: the X1950Pro or 8600GTS, is the best overall. And by that I mean both stock performance and overclocking potential.

Anyone have any idea which would be better?

I have to agree. In almost every game benchmark test you see online, the X1950 is beating the GTS and at a lower price too. I have been heavily researching video cards the last 3-4 days since I have the "itch" again. Nothing in the pricepoint can beat my GS's so I guess I am stuck waiting for a better and cheaper midrange card.......
