  • Cable drops network card out

Got a system that runs Bigpond cable thru a Realtek 10/100 Nic + bigpond's modem on Windows XP. The connection runs for a while, but then drops out and won't reconnect. Only way to get it back is to uninstall the network card driver, then redetect the card. It will then work for a bit and the same thing happens. I have tried a different network card (one with a Davicom chip), the usb thing that smelltra supplied, a mate's cable modem, using bpalogin instead of the Telstra login, and doing a full reload, getting the driver updates from windowsupdate. Nothing seems to help - any suggestions? The system is:

    Pentium III 1gig Coppermine
    Abit ST6 mobo
    256mb PC133
    Geforce2 MX200 with 28.32 drivers
    10/100 Realtek nic

Do you have a firewall installed? If so, configure the firewall to allow the Telstra "heartbeat" through - if you don't then it will constantly drop out after about 5 minutes :(

I've forgotten the exact port needed so ask one of the other BPA users here :)
