Without knowing what type of Internet connection you use, it is hard to say what may help you out. In the meantime, if you are using a broadband service check out this link for some tweaks.

It really depends where the server is located. E.g if ur in the U.S, connecting to europe which is on the otherside of the world, of course ur gona get high pings. Try to join servers which are hosted locally in your country. Depending on distance from ur internet exchange and destination of the gaming server, the pings are proportional.

Most games have a lot of tweaks you can run in their command line that can adjust the packet transfer size/rate depending on your type of connection. Depending on the game, it can make a dramatic improvement.

change ISP's to first tier ISP will help (ie one of the major companies)

what else is using your bandwidth, ie bitorrents, peer to peer software will destroy any chance of good pings

ok what else is connected to your internet

have you checked your PC for spyware - they can steal all your bandwidth.

do AT&T have their own servers for those games?
