  • GA-P35C-DS3L Won't boot XP disk

Just build a new system, first one in a long time. And I've got the hardware all up and running however I can't get my xp disk to boot. If I run the disk that came with the motherboard it will boot up fine and if I try running the Ultimate boot disk that will start up fine. The XP disk is good and works on other machines.

    Here is the setup:

    GA-P35C-DS3L
    Q6600
    Kingston HyperX memory - 2 GB ( 2 x 1 GB )
    Seagate 250GB SATA
    IDE CD/DVD
    EVGA 8800GT

Let me know if you need any more information or have any suggestions. Thanks for any help.

if its not an original XP disk, I'd try upgrading the firmware on cd drive

That or it sounds as if you may just need to use a different newer burn as well as above comment

Replacing the cd drive with a sata drive worked. Xp is loaded and running. The only problem is there is a long blank screen after the post and before the xp splash screen comes up. Lasts probably 20 seconds or so.

That is probably AHCI do you have it enabled?

I'll have to check when I get back home. Should it be enabled or disabled? What will it effect?

You will have to read what AHCI is first of all, I have found no performance difference but others say there is, some also agree so it is up to you. But with it enabled it will take longer to boot as it will load the ahci bios everytime before windows.
