no problem however what is your vid of your processor? If you google Coretemp and download it it will tell you that. That is the min voltage that your computer takes to boot.

You can try this a LSD gave me these settings first time I started and they worked GREAT! I now have a q6600 at 3.6GHz stable but looking to push to 3.8Ghz next. But try below and let me know. Make sure you thank Lsdmeasap!

Just so you know now and not wonder or get scared. A bouble reboot is normal when changing BIOS settings. So if you see a double boot it is fine, as is single of course. Which will only happen with minor changes. A double is the norm.

A triple reboot means the settings failed and the BIOS MIT section will be reset to default, you will need to try again. This is usually to tight of ram timings, or not enough CPU Voltage

                Re: Gigabyte ep45-DS3R

You need to post your full specs, the above may or may not work for you. Please post Ram type, amount and CPU name as well so we can advise you of a voltage range. The above may be wrong if you have a older CPU, or if you are using different ram then he was.

Basically, you will need system specific settings probably. But that may be a good starting range for you if you have a New Quad (45Nm) and 2x1GB of ram at 1066 speeds. If not you will need different settings for sure, which I do see you listed ram speed of 800. So the above will not boot for you, please post what type of ram, how much and your CPU name and I will post you some settings to start with.

I will be back tomorrow for sure if You do not post back tonight

I finally got your reply (Wife has me going all over) Thank you for your help I'm just learning this computer building stuff. I got your reply this A.M. and I looked at my memory and it is the corsair 800 DDR2 1024 mhz 2x1 ghz dual channel (4 ghz Total), my cpu is an intel quad core Q6600 2.40 ghz. my power supply is a thermaltake 650 watt. My video card is a nvidia 8600 gts 256 mb my cooling is the 2 standard case fans. Computer is always coming out of a shutdown after several hours having to check the bios errors I have set eveything to the optimized defaults.Help? . Also on hibernate it shuts off and restarts right away.
                  Yup she posessed.

                    Re: Gigabyte ep45-DS3R

Ok, I would start here with stock settings first. Then if you want to overclock we can work on that later on.

S3 sleep will not work, you will need to set that to S1 until they release a BIOS fix. Q6600 is 2.40GHz by default not 2.14

You say 2x1GB ram? Then 4 total, which is it? Can you also please post the model # so I can know the CAS timing

                        Hi thank you for responding
You are awesome I made the changes you suggested and it booted like lightening.
although I had to wing a few things its way smoother! Where do I find the sticker for the cas? and where do I find s1-s3 sleep? Now when its comes out of a shut down it tries to restart but can't. it goes into a rapid start cycle and never fires the monitor up. It finally started after I shut the power off. Any final tweeking?

                        Thanks

                          Re: Gigabyte ep45-DS3R

Hey, No Problem! That is why I am here.

Sorry It took me so long to reply to you!

2x1 GB eh, So that is it? Just two 1GB sitcks? If so, the below settings would be for 2x1GB

To update the BIOS Safely, start by NOT USING @BIOS!

If you do want to, which you dont have to at all, see my pinned guide here >>>

I only mentioned BIOS because I was talking about the S3 Sleep, Which there has not been a updated BIOS fix released yet. But, here is your BIOS page just incase you do want to update it, which I say if it isnt broke dont fix it!
                          GIGABYTE - Support - Motherboard - BIOS - GA-EP45-DS3R (rev. 1.0)

The Sticker you need to look at for CAS timings is on the RAM. It is the timings that look like this >>>
4-4-412 or 5-5-5-15 Something along those lines. Since you do have 2x1 and not 2x2 as I originally thought, I will update the settings I gave for you to use. Please still look at your ram sticker, as I will enter 4-4-4-12 below and it may not be correct for your ram.

You can also look in CPU-z, link below, in the SPD Tab for the 400Mhz Section as shown in image >>>

See in my image, there is 2 400MHz entries, yours may have 2 as well. You will want to use the EPP ones if yours has them. Post a pic of yours if you are not sure, like I said it will be either 4-4-4-12 or 5-5-5-12/15/18

                          CPUID

As for your boot cycles, let me explain. A double reboot is normal when making BIOS changes. A triple or more is not, and will reset the BIOS to default settings because something was not set correct (Wrong timings, or not enough voltage to something)

                            @shauntx

                            your settings will not work.

your voltage will cause error.. not all quadcores are thesame, dont forget the Vdroop of this board. if you set your voltage to 1.4750 you detected voltage will be @ 1.3760 idle 1.36xx~1.34xx on load. please set the cpu PLL to default. because the PLL votage overclock to much when set to auto.

dont forget to Run OCCT mix for 2 hours. if occt is stable within 2 hours your settings is good for 24/7 OCCT is more faster to detect errors than orthos.

                            @ TS

please read more information before overclocking.

I keep getting it wrong 4-1 gb sticks. Ok hopfully this is it the stick reads:5-5-5-18 Also what is occt mix?

Thanks again for putting up with my lack of education.
