  • Password required to browse network?

This might be a simple one but I wish someone could help me with this problem. I am trying to connect and share files with an XP machine and Win98. Everytime i connect to the Win98 on my XP, its asking me for a password. The login is grayed out and it shows guest. There are no passwords set on both machines. So how can I browse folders on my network without this authentication? thanks for the help

Trying going <a href="http://www.tweaktown.com/document.php?dType=guide&dId=145&dPage=3" target="_blank">here</a> and check out Tweak #5... See if that fixes things.

Am I right in saying the problem is the other way round to Beefy's tweak - you are having trouble connecting to the win98 machine from the XP machine? You could try the following:

      1. Make sure you don't have any spaces in the computer names or share names, that can cause big troubles
      2. Try installing the NetBEUI protocol on the two machines, sometimes XP and 98 can have trouble talking to each other via TCP/IP. It is officially unsupported my Microsoft in Windows XP but they provide instructions on how to add it here http://support.microsoft.com/default...;en-us;Q301041

        :o

Try checking the 98 machine and make sure guest login is enabled.

        Good Luck,
