  • Finally a Solution to the Door/Drive Rail Problem !

At least I percieve it as a problem.... (keep reading)

I hate cases with doors because :
    * Blocking viewing and use of Drives, Digital Docs, Live! Drives, etc
    * Your CD you just burn finishes, and the door has swung partly closed, CD drive opens, harms itself (repeat 10 times) bad CD-RW.
    * Doors don't fit around some mobil HD racks.

Drive rails in conjunction with a Case Door are BAD IDEA because:
    * Leave those ugly visible finger spots for drive rail access when the the door is open.
    * Very Easy to steal drives, (at a lan party)
    * What good is a key when everyone has the same key?
    * Break door off accidentally, and you are left with ugly plasic connection, and an unbalanced case look.

    =========

Now. I Think I have found the solution!!!!

Please let me know if you have actually touched this mechanism, and give me your summary if you see somthing wrong with the design...

    Solution: http://www.directron.com/ta10w.html
Click on the "Mechanic Structure" picture, and you will see how it works...

The Upper Front bezel comes off completely by pressing two spots on the sides, and removing it, exposing the drive bays!

I have looked at alot of cases in the recent past, and THIS is the best design I have seen, and the ONLY design better than my current case (which doesn't have drive rails, but looks very similar to the front of this case I linked you do)

I haven't been this excited about a computer component since I was tracking the shipment of my 19" monitor. :D :thumb: :thumb:

    ===================

Please let me know if you have touched this mechanism, or possibly can shed some more light on it.

Now let me debate my points against the Door cases, when compared with what the Doorless case offers. CounterPoints are in BOLD

I hate cases with doors because :
    * Blocking viewing and use of Drives, Digital Docs, Live! Drives, etc
    NO view Blockage :thumb:
    * Your CD you just burn finishes, and the door has swung partly closed, CD drive opens, harms itself (repeat 10 times) bad CD-RW.
NOT possible without a Door :thumb:
    * Doors don't fit around some mobil HD racks.
NOT possible without a Door :thumb:

Drive rails in conjunction with a Case Door are BAD IDEA because:
    * Leave those ugly visible finger spots for drive rail access when the the door is open.
Finger Spots Hidden!! But the Advantages of Drive Rails Exists completely ! :thumb:
    * Very Easy to steal drives, (at a lan party)
Decent Point... BUT ! Most people have not seen a case like this... AND if someone DOES steal a drive, it leaves a GIANT hole which CAN'T be covered by a DOOR !! :D :thumb:
    * What good is a key when everyone has the same key?
    -See Last point
    * Break door off accidentally, and you are left with ugly plasic connection, and an unbalanced case look.
NOT possible without a Door :thumb:

Wiggo, with all you extensive travels of the net, you do not know that Chenming IS Cheiftec? They also sell cases under the brand name Uneec as well as make cases for Antec and Koolance.

The Tiawanese company that builds the cases is Chenming. ;)

Yes, and they sell their cases under the names I mentioned above. Although Koolance (and possibly antec) add their own touches to the case, making it more specific to them.

            http://www.google.com/search?sourcei...uneec+chieftec

Back to the topic. Have you encountered this type of system IRL Wiggo? Or have you even seen some better screenshots? Maybe a thorough review on this type of design?

The name doesn't bother me but they are great cases no matter which model. In fact this one will be my next. ;)

Thanks for the link there zeradul now I know why the old Chenming site hasn't worked for the last 6 months now as they changed their name and site.

I've been wonderin' what happened there. :thumb:

                      np....

Ok, so now lets get back to the question at hand... does anyone know how well the system works?

Does the removable bezel leave gaps, or is it weak? Do I have to buy one to find out?

I was thinkin' about one of those at one stage but now that I have a PC to myself the door version is fine for me now but I've never built a PC with the doorless version but Darth has reviewed one, http://www.tweaktown.com/document.ph...ew&dId=189 , so he might be able to help ya out there with his oppinion about it. ;)

Why do you prefer cases with doors Wiggo?

I don't use the ROM's a lot as most games I shadow the CD to the HDD (**** I even have the Windows setup on HDD) and it's only when I install or burn something that I would want access to them but wasn't always the case though it is now and I like the clean look to the case. ;)

                              Ok, simple enough I guess...

Anyone else prefer door cases to non-door cases? And why?
