    Trying to overclock i7 920/Gigabyte EX58-UD4P

    hello,

    I am trying to overclock following the Gigabyte PDF guide. However, when I change Bclk to anything other than default 133, the board reboots in loop. Computer powers up but doesnt post and repeat the powerup sequence continuously until I press the Clear CMOS button. I just got the motherboard today and wonder if the board is defective. Is there something I am missing here? Tried using the F8 BIOS and updated to 10D beta bios but same thing.

    what cooler are you using and what sort of ram?

        Good job, you could have at least answered the guys question about what cooler and what sort of ram ur using, and also tell us what u did to fix the problem as well as what settings your using. This is useful to other people just like u who come to this forum for help. Bet we'll never see you again.

          Not exactly sure what setting made the system work, but I think it's the CPU Vcore/VTT voltage setting set to Auto instead of manual value. But I am still not so sure. I am using IceAge Prima Boss2 cooler and Gskill 6GB PC12800NQ CL9.

            Everything was running fine at 4ghz with Turbo Boost on. And I don't think it was the Vore/VTT voltage set at auto because I changed them and it was running fine. Then I decided to move one of the CPU fan from SYS FAN3 to SYS FAN1 and the system refuses to boot at 200 again. Same powerup loop happening. I can boot at 170 but I know the system is stable at 4ghz/200 Bclk but cannot get the thing to post at all. What could be the problem here?

              It could have been that you were able to boot at whatever settings you had before but it wasn't stable. Always test your overclock using a program such as Prime95 (at least 10-12 hours) and/or LinX (20 runs using maximum memory available).

              Make sure you set your uncore frequency to twice your memory multiplier and disable any power saving modes.

              Don't leave some settings on AUTO since the board could overvolt and potential cause some harm to some of your components. :o

                No, it was stable. I tested Prime95 for 6-7 hours without error. Several 20 passes of IntelBurnTest v2.3. All this at 4.2Ghz. Any power saving modes were diabled as well. What happens is, when I change Bclk to anything higher than 170, power supply will shutdown and restart which doesn't happen when I set bclk to below 170. Power supply stays on when rebooting with bclk set below 170. When the power supply shutdown (I know this by the sound of fans stopping) it will restart but shuts down again in 1-2 seconds. Sometimes the powerup sequence will loop (ie. power supply starts and shutdowns and on and on)

                Could this be a faulty board?

                I think setting Uncore multiplier to twice my memory multiplier did fix it. Back at 4.2Ghz. Thanks! Strange thing is, the last time I was at 4.2ghz, I didn't even touch Uncore setting.

                  I had the same reboot problem, could not pass 172 or 173 blck, fixed it by moving all fan power from the mobo directly to the PSU. Only one i left on was the CPU fan header , dont know how this worked exactly but it did. Someone mentioned before to remove all connections between the case and mobo, or at least as many as possible.

                  I was this close to getting another board it gave me such a headache, happy to hear yours has been corrected!
