  • Best MB for the following config

    Hello all,
need some help on deciding some MB issues...
I am going to build a new computer this week and I still
dunno which KT333 board to get.... anyways, here is what I have in mind for now

    Windows XP Pro
    AMD 2100+
    512MB 333 DDR
40MB HD (Either Maxtor for ATA133 or normal)
(Random Brand) GeForce Ti4200 128MB, just the basic
    Ethernet card or intergrated...
No idea about audio.... either built-in or card need suggestions

    and lastly motherboard....
I am open for any suggestions
I did some reading and it looks like that Epox's 8K3A+ is good...
    However, I will NOT overclock.
This system is to be used for home gaming, I want it to be "stable"

    Thanks

If you want stabilaty the Soltek SL-75DRV5 is good, read a few of the reviews and they all seem to say it's stable, and i have not had any motherboard related problems either.
It also has ABS II, so your not going to fry your cpu.

I personally use Epox boards boards for their price and stability plus you don't have to overclock with them (but tweaking the memory settings sure helps). Abit are another brand that I'd recommend. Whatever ya pick though make sure that it uses the VIA KT266A or even better KT333 chipset. Also forget the Maxtor HDD and go for either Western Digital or Seagate. :smokin:

        Well,
        I came across this board

        Magic Pro MP-7VIP-DR4+

        Is it decent/good?

        For Epox, is this good?

        Epox 8K5A+

also, how much of a difference is ATA 133?

              Get the segate HD
And the 64MB Triplex 4200 is 3.3ns but not the 128MB
If you want 3.3ns RAM on a 128MB card get the SUMA SE

40MB HD (Either Maxtor for ATA133 or normal)
                  Three comments:

First of all, you mean 40 GB, not MB.... heh ;)

Secondly, ATA133 is a joke. No hard drives even remotely begin to take advantage of the 133 capability, AND the entire ATA133 speed will be skipped entirly as Serial ATA comes out (ATA150) in the next few months.

Thirdly, Maxtor is ranked by most in at least 3rd place as far as likelyhood of having problems. The top two spots, as Wiggo said, are held by Western Digital, and Seagate.

Either maxtor, seagate or WD are good HD's. I think they are about equal, there are people that have had problems with each brand, i personally own a seagate and its very reliable not to mention totally silent, it has noise absorbing stuff in the HD (also absorbs heat), western digitals are just as reliable but i hear they are quite loud
