Ok, so the problem Ive been having is with restarts. I discovered this problem while trying to watch a 1080p trailer for Ironman 2 (lol) with Apple Quicktime. The computer just "restarts" like I hit the restart button. The power does not shut off completely to it, it just reboots.

    So far I have passed:
50 LinX passes (25k problem size = ~5GB of memory)
    14.5 hours Prime 95 SmallFTT
    12 hours Prime 95 Blend

OCCT Large Data Set (Infinite/Normal Priority/Hyperthreading) is what kills my PC. Ive been slowly trying to find what is causing the random restart.

The first time the computer rebooted within 4 hours. The next time "Core 3" failed after 80 min. After that, the computer ran another 7 hours and restarted. After bumping up the vtt a notch and messing with the cpu pll, ich core, ioh core and qpi pll it went 15 hours and restarted.

Below is a picture of my voltages/settings.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

i can see straight away your way off on your qpi voltage,i need 1.3000 and thats at 3.8 when i clock to 4.3ghz i need 1.38000+ i would bump up qpi voltage to atleast 1.35000 and test from there

Re: i7 Overclocking Issues with EX58-UD5

Ive tried every qpi/vtt voltage from 1.135v to 1.415v

None of these are stable. I can get the system to reboot itself by running SuperPi Mod 1.5 every...single...time

What other approaches can I take? QPI/VTT voltage tweaking has taken me nowhere. The CPU is stable (as evident by prime95/linx tests...the qpi is where the system is failing).

have you tried with latest bios f9m i think it is? put cpu clock skew back to default, load optimised defaults and re enter your overclock that helps sometimes, your settings look ok to me and the voltages, also try with 16 uncore or 18 uncore

Thanks for the help so far. Im gonna try F9m bios but Im looking for a flash drive. Dont have mine on me, left it at school (college).

Re: i7 Overclocking Issues with EX58-UD5

No dice with the newest BIOS (F9M)

I tried x18 uncore, kept getting reboots with Prime95 Large FTT

As I have read, problems with Large FTT can indicate results with memory (correct me if this is wrong).

I bumped uncore down to 2x the memory multiplier (Uncore = x16), and Im running Large FTT again. hopefully this work /crosses fingers

Any reason that it just didnt like 2x+1 uncore?

Re: i7 Overclocking Issues with EX58-UD5

Running uncore at 2x memory seems to eliminate the random reboots.

System still freezes though with Prime 95 Large FFT

                        Still freezing :/

Sometimes it freezes and the LED code on the motherboard changes from FF to C0. Could this help indicate where the problem lies?

This is from another thread on the error codes...

Re: i7 Overclocking Issues with EX58-UD5

I had a similar issue and two notches increased in vcore sorted them out. I think with the mem controller being on the cpu it puts more stress on the cpu so i would say increase the vcore to maybe 1.28(1.3V in the bios) and see if it helps.
The reason that 2x the memory multiplier was more stable then 2x + 1 or 2 x + 2 is probably to do with your Motherboard or your voltage settings. My board doesn't like anything higher then 4000Mhz(For now i hope). In the beginning i also couldn't get 18x uncore stable but after hours of fiddling and some help from the guys on this forum i managed to get it to work. It is all about finding the correct relationship with all the voltages. To much is just as bad as to little. For me i had to set the QPI/Vtt quite high and i had too much QPI Pll voltage. Every cpu and board is different so it is difficult to give exact settings. I think you have to play around and find what works. I found that once i got closer to the correct voltages the board would get to and go through the intial Post screen quicker. Where before it would take quite long to decide to post and when it did post it would take quite long to move off the post screen.

                          I hope this helps

                          Good luck

At this point Im just gonna start from scratch...

Set all voltages to auto, except vcore and qpi/vtt voltage (which I set to 1.19375v vcore and 1.175v qpi/vtt voltage - these voltages come from what they are at when I use auto at stock volts w/o turbo enabled).

I set memory multi at 8x and uncore at 16x manually. BCLK is set at 153 and CPU multi is 21x (21x153 = 3.21GHz, 5.5 GT/s QPI).

Gonna run 10 passes of LinX max mem then bump BCLK so CPU Frequency is 3.6GHz. Then Im gonna test some more, adjust Vcore and QPI/VTT voltage as necessary, then go after 3.8GHz. Rinse and repeat.

PCI Frequency is locked at 100 MHz

3.6ghz (171x21) doing well so far on stock voltages (as posted above). Passed 10 LinX max memory passes, just gonna run prime95 blend overnight while I sleep, see where that leads to.
