ie javascript history.back

i have a html form that has form elememts, i.e. like textboxes. when the submit button is pressed the data gets entered into a mysql table, but if there is a data error i use "history.back()" to go back to the form. problem is the text that was typed in the form is gone when using IE, but is there when using netscape. is there a javascript IE fix for this?
