  • Compatibility issues? Or just busted proc?

Well another question for my cousin...

He recently bought a 1600+ AMD Athlon proc which he bought today... He tried to install it a little while ago. Now heres the problem. When he starts his computer everything turns on the hs fan, cd-rw drive, cd-rom drive... everything but the proc doesnt start up at all. All he gets is a black screen.

    Here's the comps specs:

New AMD Athlon 1600+ proc (Used to be a 950+)
    Gigabyte GA-7VRXP motherboard
    256mb PC-2100 RAM
    GeForce3 TI200

That's about all I know. He has several case fans as well as a nice HS (not sure what kind) and video cooling.

Thankyou in advance for any and all replys.

no beeps at all? if you take the ram out and start it and it doesnt beep then the processor isnt running properly ie. dead or not installed right.

Sounds like he was probably running customized settings for his old processor. If the new XP 1600+ isn't unlocked, then the multiplier that is currently set within the BIOS won't be compatible with his new processor. If you just reset the CMOS (should be a jumper...check the manual to find out for sure how to do this), then it should revert to default settings and do an auto detect for the new processor.
