890GX Firware update 2.40 turned Dual-channel RAM into Single-channel

Hi All

Any ideas as to why after the firmware update from 1.8 to 2.4 my RAM is now only Single-channel? And how to restore it? I did a clear CMOS after my first restart, swapped RAM from the blue slots to white, then back again, took one out, but it back, to no avail. Also turned back to FW 1.8 and cleared CMOS but it now remains as Single channel.

I have tested it with following configuration, but I didn't see the same symptom like yours.
Following is our test configuration.
CPU: Phenom II X4 955
DRAM:OCZ PC-12800 2G x2 (OCZ3BE1600C8LV4GK AMD Black Edition Ready)
VGA: PowerColor HD4870
HDD: Crucial C300 SSD
BIOS version: P2.40
ODD: ASUS DVD-RW

I have tested the DRAM modules under DDR3-1066/1333/1600 MHz, they still running at "Dual Chanel Memory Mode" no matter what the DRAM is insert at blue or white slots.

For your suggestion,
1.Please insert your DRAM modules in the DRAM slots with same color( DDR3_A1+DDR3_B1 or DDR3_A2+DDR3_B2)
2.Please re-insert your DRAM modules.
3.Please re-install your CPU.
4.Please load BIOS default setting then try again.
5.If you have another AM3 CPU, please change the CPU then try again.

What program are you using to see if it's in Dual or Single Channel? Are you using AMD Overdrive?

Thanks for the replies.

I looked in Windows Control Panel / System and it showed "Installed memory (RAM): 4.00GB (2.00GB Usable), which immediately made me suspicious. So I installed and booted the PC with one RAM module at a time and I got a BIOS Post error on one of the modules, which means it must have been one hell of a coincidence that it packed up at the same time as the firware was flashed?

BTW both AMD Overdrive and CPU-Z showed Single-channel memory. Probably because it saw both modules installed but only one was fully working.

ahh I see so you are RMAing the RAM? I would send it back as a kit if it were me.
