  • P55A - UD4 - Ram + overclock question

    Firstly, hi there tweaktowners!

i'm wondering if anyone could help me with my ram frequency and overclock stability on my motherboard, i have:

    Gigabyte P55a - ud4

    i5 760 - 4core 2.88 ( when stock, lol.. :D )

    OCZ Gold 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-16000C10 (2000MHz) Dual Channel ram

my current Oc is 4.3 ghz with:

    1.472 vcore
    20x multiplier
    215 bclk
    3440 qpi

    1.31 qpi V
    1.680 Ram V
    0.820 Ram C
    7-6-7-26-1T

( and isn't stable in any application that is memory intensive )

All power saving features, and turbo boost tech are disabled

ive tried with a miryiad of timings and voltages, upto the posted 2000 mhz timings from ocz of 10-10-10-30, im stuck at a 6x memory multiplier for any decent overclock, i've ( tentatively ) upped the qpi voltage, ram voltage, ram timings and core volts to try and compensate but to no avail, it simply wont get to windows if the ram is on a multiplier that puts it over 1600 mhz

if anyone has any advice i'd be greatfull, thanks!

    EDIT ---
i saw another thread about a similar subject and tryed the advice therein, i upped the qpi volts to 1.41 ( and im scared to go higher tbh because im told that's pushing it allready )
my 4.3 ghz overclock is now stable under burntest and maxes out at about 80*c which is ok by me, but i still cant get decent memory mhz, i'm stuck at 6x memory multi @1290 mhz so any ideas other than qpi volts? i'd be very happy with the 8x multi because that would be around 1700 mhz and i'd feel i got what i payed for :P

    Re: P55A - UD4 - Ram + overclock question

you probably wont achieve 2000mhz @4.3ghz,i dont think that board lets you adjust the uncore frequency either which may be holding you back, try with a simple 190x20 bclk and run your ram at 1800mhz or 1866mhz and see if you can get it stable then move from there

btw i dont know how high your ram multi goes on that mb,for me it goes to 12x,

Yes the i5-750/760 have a lower uncore multi (Locked x16), so that may be what is holding him back right now.

Can you use the x8 multiplier at lower Bclks, how about stock? Can you use x8 at 200 Bclk?

Are you using the latest BIOS, F14?

        Re: P55A - UD4 - Ram + overclock question

Hi there guys, thanks for a super quick response, I did try 8 and 10 times multi at stock mobo settings, the 10 times multi never works, even if I clock back below stock, the lowest I tried was 18x multi at stock bclock, the 8x memory multi does work at stock settings and for tiny over clocks

just to be clear, i figured 2000 mhz at 4.3 ( 10x memory multi ) was a pipe-Dream to begin with, but I'd like to use higher than 1290 ( x6 ) because it seems a bit pathetic, or maybe that's normal with an over clock? I'm not sure with this platform, it's my first 1156 Oc

don't have the f14 bios, I downloaded it but I was too busy trying other settings to install it yet, i'll try that next ( currently f9 ) never done that before either so i'll have to figure that out first lol!

          Re: P55A - UD4 - Ram + overclock question

I'd go ahead with the BIOS update before trying further, could be the older BIOS holding you back.

2000Mhz should be ok with an overclock, but maybe not at 4.3ghz. Did you ever try it at 4-4.2Ghz -190x21 or 200x21, with x8 ram multi for 1600Mhz? If that works then you should be able to also use x10 with some tweaking to get it going.

I just this second flashed the bios, it seems to work perfectly I have the new 'unlocked performance' logo

i'll try the frequency's you said and get back to you, wont be long and i'll get back to you

            thanks again

              Re: P55A - UD4 - Ram + overclock question

I tried the settings you posted above and I managed to make them work with ease with tiny voltage adjustments, these were the the results

              3990.1
              21x mult
              32x qpi
              190 bclk
              10
              10
              10
              30 Dr
              8x Dr mult

              1.3125 Vc
              1.230 Qpi
              1.600 Drv
              0.800 Drt

              #########

              4200
              21x mult
              32x qpi
              200 bclk
              10
              10
              10
              30 Dr
              8x Dr mult

              1.35 Vc
              1.25 Qpi
              1.600 Drv
              0.800 Drt

              #########

both 100% burntest stable, and the second gives me the 60 gigaflops I was getting from my old 4.3 ghz overclock, and it maxes out at only 68* in burn-test now because it needs heck of allot less volts, so that new bios has helped a ton!
also, that's my 1600 ram frequency, which is the highest it's ever been, I'm going to experiment a bit more and hopefully get a nice 4.3 stable
( ok I admit it Im an oc addict :D )

                Re: P55A - UD4 - Ram + overclock question

what timings are your ram rated at? try and set them manually for example 8-8-8-24-1T,just select quick for timings and type them in and it will set them for however many modules you have installed, glad you managed to improve on things

                  Re: P55A - UD4 - Ram + overclock question

the ram is rated at 10-10-10-30 @ 2000, I was using those as reference because I figured their nice wide timings and should run @ any frequency without too much voltage
I haven't tried tightening them while over-clocked, but i'll try the timings you listed at 4.2 and see how it goes

tried at 8-8-8-24-1 and it crashed burntest, but it was stable before with 10-10-10-30
i'll try with a higher qpi-V again, that was the same as before (1.27)

                      Re: P55A - UD4 - Ram + overclock question

yh it probably wont go much tighter than what its rated at,you could try 10-10-10-24 or 10-10-10-28 but you might need more qpi/vtt as a result, but stock ram timings will be fine

It seems my ram just hates high frequencys, which is insane seeing as it's sold as a 2000 mhz kit, is it possible that my qpi multiplier is the problem? would 36x multi help perhaps? i'm not 100% sure what it does

have you tried with 2000mhz yet? you got 1600mhz stable right? it should run at 2000mhz and 10-10-10-30 timings, the qpi link speed? set to 36x,its the uncore frequency that is limited with that mb

it will not atall boot at 2000 mhz, no setting i've tried will boot over 1600
even stock with 10x memory multi fails

but it will boot at 1600 and I have the memory timings down really low:

                            6-7-5-19-1T
( this is with the 4.2 ghz overclock settings I mentioned before )

i'll keep tinkering, I don't like sleep anyway lol :)
