  • 880G Extreme3 memory question

    Hello Sean,

Noob question. I have an Asrock 880G Extreme3 mobo. Love it. I currently have one stick of Kingston VR 1066 2G. I want to replace it with two kits of the Kingston HyperX LoVo at 1800. But the motherboard manual states 1800/1600 memories are to be installed in the A2/B2 slots. Does that mean the A1/B1 slots won't recognize any 1800/1600 memory? What will happen if I populate all four memory slots with DDR3 1800 memory sticks? Do I have to set the memory to 1333 in order to use all four slots?

I want this fast of memory because I borrowed a Patriot 1600 kit (PGS34G1600ELKA) and the onboard video worked much better. As in little to no artifacts and crashes while watching videos on hulu and youtube compared to the slower memory. I want more than four gigs of ram because I'm going to be manipulating a lot of photos. 2 gigs of ram is saturated pretty fast. 4 gigs is better. I want to see if 8 gigs is the sweet spot.

When had the Patriot 1600 kit I disabled sideport and used 512MB UMA only. Ran very smooth that way. If I ran sideport plus UMA it was very buggy. I figured it was because of the different memory speeds so upped the sideport to 1610. Helped a little but not completely. Still had artifacts, crashes and lockups while playing flash videos. So my thinking is my best setup would be 8 gigs of DDR3 1800. And use 512MB of UMA no sideport.

    System:

    Zalman Z7 Plus
    Corsair 400CX
    Asrock 880G Extreme3 bios v1.7 - onboard gpu oc'd to 650 mGPU 1.184v sideport at 1333 1.8v plus 128M UMA
AMD 555BE 2 cores unlocked bumped to 3.4Ghz stock voltage.
    1 stick Kingston KVR1066D3N7/2G oc'd to 1333 9-9-9-25 1.65v
    WD Blue 320GB
Windows XP MCE SP3 - plan to upgrade to Windows 7 64 Bit

This is what I'm trying to find out as well.
