Does this motherboard handle the new GeForce GTS-450 DDR5 video card or does Gigabyte only support ATI video cards???????

Hi there,

Gigabyte does support Nvidia cards so it should work.

Is your BIOS up to date? If your motherboard is the GA-MA785GPM-UD2H then the latest BIOS is F5E and you might find updating to this version helps.

Another thing to do would be to make sure that you have disabled the on-board graphics as it could be causing a conflict. ATI and NVidia Graphics chips don't always play nicely together.

One big problem is my system does not even recognize the hardware plugged into the pci express slot. I'm kind of lost.

OK,

If the GPU isn't being recognised at all there are a few things to check.

Have you made sure it is seated properly in the PCI-E slot?
Have you connected the power lead to the Graphic card? (if needed)
On your motherboard are you using a 4pin or 8 pin ATX 12V Connector? (that's the connector near the CPU towards the back edge of the motherboard that supplies extra power to the CPU and PCI-E Slot.)
Is your PSU powerful enough for your PC?
Does the PCI-E Slot work with another make/type of Graphic Card?

Video card is securely into pci slot.
Think I've got 4pin connection for 12v. on MB
Have an Ultra 650W psu s/b plenty enough.
V/C is plugged in with power (fan is working).
Have never tried pci slot before.

If you only have a 4 pin plug in the 12V ATX connector near the CPU you may not be getting enough power to the PCI-e slot. You can buy an 8 Pin adaptor lead that will run from one of the Molex connectors on your PSU, like this 4 pin Molex to 8 pin EPS 12v Cable on eBay (end time 11-Jan-11 17:22:21 GMT)

I shall assume that it means you have plugged in the 6 pin PCI-E power connector in the graphics card and when you turn on the system the GPU fan spins up.

Does everything work if you take out the GPU and use the integrated graphics?
Surely you pluged in the monitor in the GTS 450 and not the integrated ports (it should disable itself once deicated card is plugged in)?
