my GA-P55A-UD3 V2 F11 board. Freezes at the beginning of the AWARD boot where the memory is first checked under certain conditions described below:
Sporadically when I attach a USB HDD it will freeze. Then keyboard is frozen too.
Sometimes this happens with only a single USB HDD attached. Sometimes [today] it happened when a second USB HDD was attached.
For example:
Today with a single USB HDD 300GB external attached it boots properly. When I added a second USB HDD 500GB external it froze [at the BIOS's memory check.
I tried switching the port where the 500GB HDD was connected-that did not help.
When I say sporadically-- I mean - today with both USB HDDs attached it booted OK many times over several hours.. Then; It no longer would boot with the 500 GB HDD attached-even if the 500GB drive was the only attached USB HDD [the 300 GB HDD not attached]. It continues to refuse to boot while the 500GB drive is attached [by itself or with the 300GB attached].
Strangely I can plug in the 500GB HDD later when the OS has completed its booting.
[I have Mac OSX on one internal HDD and Windows 7 on another HDD]. All my Windows & OSX utilities report both the 300 & the 500GB HDDs are OK,
I am ruling out an OS issue. It never gets that far.
Other facts: Both Win7 and OSX run perfectly [when they get a chance]. The board is setup as ACHI. Any BIOS setting related to USB is enabled. The board is 2+ months old. I have a i%650 & 4GB of OXZ 1333 RAM with a 650 watt PS. My video board is a low current Nvidia GeForce 8400/512 so I doubt power is the culprit.
I have turned off the power for several minutes to see if that made a difference-it did not.
I have not RESET the BIOS, nor performed any inside case changes. Because it was working fine earlier today for several hours, it did seem likely the BIOS had lost its' way.
No USB devices are connected to the USB 3.0 ports.A USB keyboard & mouse are always attached. It happens when a USB printer is attached and when not attached.
I have searched the net-many reports are similar but I have not found any solutions that apply here.
Suggestions to Fix problem PLEASE???
