  • First Gigabyte , First Post Here , Anxiety Is Killing Me!

Just joined this forum and just bought my first Gigabyte board. I usually run EVGA or DFI boards so this bios is totally new to me. Car needed work so I sold my I7 rig and here I am back to s775. Plans are to oc my q6600 to 3.8Ghz and then 4.0Ghz if possible. My chip has a vid of 1.23v and has made it to 3.6Ghz easily until a PWM mosfet gave out on my DFI. Anyways, I'm getting my template together and I'll start another thread when I'm ready for assistance. seems like a lot of people have used this chip with the UD3 boards so I have high hopes. Just thought I'd say "Hi"!

Oh yeah - is F13e the latest bios for the UD3R?

Re: First Gigabyte , First Post Here , Anxiety Is Killing Me!

Sorry to hear about your car, and loss of the i7 setup!

Q6600 will top out at about 3.4-3.6Ghz or so, if you are lucky and have a golden one you might get 3.8, but I think 4Ghz even if possible wont be ideal for daily use due to the voltages it will likely require.

You can post your settings here once you get them all gathered up. Yes, F13e is the latest BIOS for EP45-UD3R

    Good luck getting everything setup!

Re: First Gigabyte , First Post Here , Anxiety Is Killing Me!

Gerardz just OCed his Q6600 to 3.5GHz with low voltages and nice temps.
Maybe 3.7GHz wil be possible with the lower VID and H50.

Re: First Gigabyte , First Post Here , Anxiety Is Killing Me!

All right. So here's my stock bios set up with a few things done here and there that I have seen automatically done here. I do realize that my power saving features are on yet and will be disabled until I get to an oc that I'm happy with. I also attached a 10x LinX run that I did before the H50 was added. The H50 dropped my temps about 12*C and when I started my 3.6GHz testing I was running about 72*C before the PWM mosfet went. This testing was done on my DFI board so I knowthat this chip has some potential. Like I said before my goal is 3.8GHz but if 3.6Ghz is more realistic - so be it. I think I'm ready to jump in! ;)

          You want 3.6 @ 400MHz or 450MHz FSB?

Re: First Gigabyte , First Post Here , Anxiety Is Killing Me!

450MHz would be nice but if I can get to 3.8GHz with a bit of sacrificing on the FSB - I would go for that. Hopefully , I can get some faster ram at some point but I have been pretty happy with these Patriots.

if you hitting 78c on 2 of the cores at 3.4ghz i dont think you can go higher with out better cooling.

Those temps were with an Ultima-90. When I installed the H50 and was running my 3.6GHz stress tests , I was only hitting around 72*C. This was running LinX.

Try these for 3.6, then you can try to increase FSB to 420-425 for 3.8

Here's a screenshot after using your settings with vcore at 1.38125v which was 1.36v in windows. drive strength was set to 800 Mhz.Click image for larger version

ID:	751311 Temps got pretty hot so i took the side off and put a box fan blowing in on everything. Dropped temps by 5-7*C. I am going to try a little less vcore and see if I can get the temps down a little more. LMK if you see anything from my 5 pass LinX run and the GFlops shown.

Gerardz had same GFlops at 3.5GHz, I'd expect 1-1.5GFlops more, His vcore is lower and temps much lower, not sure at the ambiant temperature.
His VID is a bit higher, and had 3.2GHz with stock vcore.
Do you know how to work with the MCH/CPU references to lowr VTT?

Never used those settings before - all I had to do really was adjust FSB and vcore , maybe some ram timings. Once I hit 450 Mhz , then Northbridge voltage came into play but that was with an e8400. I just dropped the vcore down 2 notches so now I'm at 1.36875 which is also showing 1.36v via CPUz.

I think I may try some of his settings pertaining to MCH?CPU. I just looked at his posts and I can't believe he's getting those Gflops/temps in comparison to mine. I guess I should be able to reach a bit more with what I have. I did notice that he is using 1066MHz ram but I didn't look at his cooling. I do think that I have a fan going out on the H50 which is set up in push/pull - time to get some Typhoons or go full water.

                              Luck is sometimes a factor.
To adjust MCH/CPU reference it is best to have edgey settings, that will let you boot but fail memtest86+.
The references are percent of VTT, some boards has the as percent, GB has them as values for some reason.
They do scale with VTT change, so to be sure of what the setttings are and simplicity, they should be adjusted when VTT is eet to 1.2V.

                              Procedure is:
                              Set VTT to 1.2v
Set reference value to it's desired value
Set VTT back to it's desired value.

Try 1-3 clicks above default, then 1-4 clicks below if no go. Default is 0.76v for both. Only change one reference at a time.

MCH/CPU clocks skew fine tuning may also help.
Every board/CPU is different so you have to find the best settings for your board.
