  • What effect?

    The new iMac unveiled.
What effect, if any do you think this will have on the designs to come for IBM compatible pc's?
I think it looks cool - but it doesn't strike me as having much potential for a power rig:D

The high-end iMac with DVD burner is pretty sweet. especially since they have that tiny little case now. And I love the swinging arm which holds the LCD, although I think a gooseneck type arm like on a reading lamp would be much cooler.:D

It will appeal to those who want the Jetsons look, but I think that any serious user will probably go with something that can be more easily upgraded in the future.

it looks like a pretty good lan machine (the LCD talking)
but besides that, it's more for looks IMO

            Looks neat and compact as.....
I wouldn't have one at home, but in an office setting it would be great.

Too bad their CPU's aren't caught up in the speed wars of AMD and Intel, cause their architecture rocks.

Anybody heard the asking price for one of these? Just curious.

Actually, on second thought - this might be Apple's answer to the net appliance:eek:

I'm not a Mac enthusiast, ( actually I've never used one - though I do have some curiosity) but as I understand it, the top one is 800mhz - the lower end model is 700mhz.

Understand though that that Motorola CPU they use is capable of some impressive MFlops - really awesome architecture as I hear it.

yeah, while the clock speeds don't compare well to the PC, they are still capable of some big things.. we've got a G4 here at work... I got no idea how to use it really, so I was just stuffing around with all the vid capturing and editing.. it's great. it processes nearly everything in real time...

so when are apple going to admit defeat to the atstronomical PC? They are fighting a losing war.
