It's been too long for me, and I'm way out of the loop.
A friend of mine is giving me a Soyo 7VCA mobo with 384 Mghz Sdram. A 12X DVD drive, and a P3 866 processor.

I allso have another friend giving me a decent video card. Other than that I need to purchase the case, monitor, keyboard, PSU, and cooling. Any suggestions as to what would be good, but not to expensive? I'm in NY.

Try some place like Directron.com for a good case selection. Fans and power supplies can be ordered at the same time as the case. For quite a while now, I've seen 17" monitors for $80us after rebate at places like Best Buy, Staples, etc.. Decent used ones can be had around here (N.E. Ohio) at computer shows for $45us. I regularly see keyboards and mice for free after rebate in the Sunday newspaper ads. All of the cheap stuff is at least servicable.
