  • ASRock Ext4/Gen3 CPU ?

Starting a new build with an ASRock Extreme 4 Generation 3 LGA 1155 Z68 mobo. 2 questions about the CPU choice.

    1. On the ASRock mobo spec sheet site - it lists usable CPUs with footnotes (E0) for example, I cannot find the key to what they mean. Not saying it isn't there, just saying I can't find it..
    Where is it?

    ASRock > Products > Z68 Extreme4 Gen3 > CPU Support List

    2. I was looking at both an Ivy Bridge CPU - i5-3570K (E0)(E1) - and a Sandy Bridge CPU - i5-2500K (D2).
I plan to add Corsair Vengance Memory, at least 8 GB, and several OCZ Vertex 4 SSDs.
Is either CPU preferred over the other?

    TIA

    Re: ASRock Ext4/Gen3 CPU ?

Since it's a Z68 board, designed for Sandy Bridge, I'd get the 2500K There are just too many issue around getting Ivy Bridge working properly on Sandy Bridge boards.

If you want Ivy Bridge, you need the Z77 board.

    Luck
