View Full Version : My first Case Mod

10-01-2002, 05:05 PM
Well I said I would posts pic(s) of my case once I finished modding it, so here goes a preliminary pic of the mod since I havent recieved all the stuff yet, I might as well give you the background on it to. Beware, the Pic does suck, because my camera is an absolute piece of **** *$30 Kmart special*

Its a work in progress right now because the window kit I got from compusa sucked, so Im doing a custom window job right now, but I have to wait for the trim to arrive so I can do it properly, as of right now my window is SARAN WRAP. It may be ghetto but it works.

I also added rounded ide cables, I'm currently using a ribbon floppy cable because the one I recieved was about a quarter of an inch too short. Yes, that pissed me off.

I currently only have one blue cold cathode installed due to the fact I haven't figured out where to put the second one.

Needs a splash of paint :geek:

10-02-2002, 06:08 AM
Good job there :thumb:

10-04-2002, 02:12 PM
Yea!! I'm finished, It turns out the second cold cathode didn't work, so I just returned it to Compusa *should have gotten both cold cathodes online*.

Shall I recommending mounting the light in a vertical position? Near the back of the case so that the drive cages don't block it. It seems to light the case up more when mounted vertically then horizontally. Although if it falls off its mounting it has a long drop when vertically then when horizontal. But that's not likely and is well worth the risk.

other then that. Great job. How does it feel? Money well spent? Or wasted? If you feel wasted just wait till you go to a lan party or a small one I should say where your the only one modded. You'll feel great when your the only one with a honda. and youg et all the "ooo's and ahh's" lol

10-04-2002, 02:23 PM
Honda??? Thats funny, even though I hate honda's ill gladly take one over the pos I have now......1991 Ford Taurus, HEY IT WAS FREE!!! And I'm 16!!!

It was money well spent, its something to be proud of.

10-04-2002, 02:25 PM
HEY DON"T MAKE FUN OF THOSE TAURUSES!!! I'm only 17 and I have a 92 ford taurus!!! Its not a POS ITS a race car in disguise!!

As for honda I was only saying that casue adding a window and lights to your case adds MHz like adding stickers and lights to a honda adds HP. I'm a camaro man so don't think I'm one of those ricing people driving around a 4 cylinder with a rediculous wing and street scraping ground effects. Raving ooooo I have 900HP made off 15 thousand dollars worth of steroids and fake power from my little tiny squeeking 4 cylinder. I pull up with a V8 under the hood of a Camaro SS. and well....the story ends right there.

10-04-2002, 02:31 PM
Hey, I like those Tauri, they are definanlty race cars in disguise, expcept this one, its DECREPID, it only has 82k miles but the engine is about ready to blow up on it.

My "OLD" Taurus, 1997 SHO V8 with 320hp *hell yes I modified it*, could EASILY smoke most rice burners, I got it up to 144mph once. But it met an unfourtanate end with a drunk driver in an F-250. I only had it for 2 months too, that PISSED ME OFF!!!, but I pocketed more insurrance money than the car was worth and I just got a handmedown car from my brother.

10-04-2002, 02:36 PM
dude a collision with an F-250? YIPES! But ya when my friend "borrows" the Camaro SS from his uncle we usually smoke rice burners. lol That is so much fun. If you look in the BG under cars and expand it to show threads from back in the day look for Camaro SS with WS6. The WS6 is someone that is a maanger at some restauraunt in that area. And well the Camaro SS is my friends uncles car that smokes ricers lol. WITH ME IN IT! lol God that is sooooo much fun in that car. The highest I was ever in the Camaro SS was like 115. but eh.

10-04-2002, 02:40 PM
Ok is this a car thread now? Anyway, nice job on the mod. How do you make the hole in the side? I mean like with what piece of equipment?

10-04-2002, 02:52 PM
lol funny how conversations just change.

To cut the whole in my case I used the led wheel I think it was on my dads dremel. Its figerglass reinforced WEAR GOGGLES SPARKS FLY EVERYWHERE!!! lol

10-04-2002, 03:11 PM
Well yeah I kinda figured there would be tons of sparks. So you can actually use a Dremel? How did you stableize the case? Or panel or whatever?

10-04-2002, 03:53 PM
Since Dremels are over rated and weak, I busted out the drill and made a starter hole, and then i cut out the window with a Jig Saw. In under 20 minutes I had a complete hole.

10-04-2002, 04:03 PM
Aaah now we are talking. Bust out the power. I think my bro has a jig saw....

10-04-2002, 04:05 PM
If not, HomeDepot has a nice one for $30 this week.

10-04-2002, 04:10 PM
Only $30? Wow, may have to go get that if I can...

10-04-2002, 10:25 PM
It truthfully depends on the dremel you use. THey very in power. THe fact that my dremel has alot of HP but very little tourque. It can spin at a max speed of 30K RPM!! I set it around 5 and it just ripped right through the case like it was butter.

10-05-2002, 02:45 PM
lol yeah I noticed that the last time I used one. Spins incredibly fast but just doesnt have the tourque

10-05-2002, 03:45 PM
Sorry guys but I much prefer to use a jigsaw as mistakes are harder to make plus ya don't have to dodge pieces of shattered cuttin' wheels flyin' about. ;)

10-05-2002, 05:17 PM
Yea Jig saws are really cool, I'm probably gonna buy the $30 one at Home Depot, just because the one my dad has is 30 years old or so, and its beggining to crap out.

10-06-2002, 10:09 AM
Well my bro Does have a kig saw. So now I don't have to spend $30 :) :thumb:

High RPM, sparks a-spattering and pieces-o-wheel popping - I just love that stuff, getting close up and personal with the destruction:thumb:

Nice job smokinAMD!

I recall my first cut really had me nervous being I was torqing on my beloved PC like that. Not nearly as heart-wrenching the second time around. LOL

10-06-2002, 02:39 PM
I've just spent the last 30 minutes cuttin' 3 x 80mm holes in the missus' case and fittin' 3 x 34cfm Antec fans plus grills for some extra airflow. ;)

This metal blade here must have done at least 3 dozen fan holes now, wonder how many more I'll get out of it? :?:

10-07-2002, 12:05 AM
lol, bet you have that down to a science huh wiggo?

10-07-2002, 12:34 AM
Practise makes perfect. ;)

10-07-2002, 09:50 PM
Yes definately.

10-08-2002, 01:46 AM
Finally added the fans huh Wiggo?...how did the come out..wassup with the temps...nice?

10-08-2002, 04:12 AM
The took PC No.2's case temps down from 11c down to 4c above room temp which brought the CPU (CPU runs 16c above the case under load) down just as much but while the 7+ had the fluff mat in it CPU temps in the high 50c's low 60c's where showing up bit the CPU didn't mind till a few 36c days we had (sadly no aircon here) and when a game was bein' played with Seti runnin' got the temp over 65c and started booting the game back to the desktop. I've got the shutdown temp set at 70c (down from the default 85c) but it never tripped it. Goin' to have to re-examine my temp suggestions for temps read from the internal diode I guess. : peace2:

10-08-2002, 11:20 AM
Yeah. Those case fans really dropped the temps then huh?

10-08-2002, 11:44 AM
Enough to make me happy for the summer since this last week here has been 33c+. ;)

But if I had aircon and a steady 25c room temp I'd be gettin' around 45c full load.

10-08-2002, 11:46 AM
Yeah, it's really cold here right now. If I leave the window open to long I freeze my ass off...

10-08-2002, 11:55 AM
it is really hot here *edit (stupid spelling). If i open my windows...I will die of heat exhaustion within a short while. hehe

10-08-2002, 12:11 PM
lol, yeah. I don't like the hot weather. Much rather freeze than burn :flames:.

10-08-2002, 12:55 PM
omg, so would I. It is sooo much harder to cool down than it is to heat up. I cannot wait until I move up north!! hehe:p

10-08-2002, 01:22 PM
Yep, I just moved up here (MA) 2 summers ago. It's great, I mean you can only take off so many articles of clothing, but you can technically put on as much as you want. :). Where are you moving to up here?

10-11-2002, 04:57 AM
dam i must feel different i went from Il to Fl. I love it down here the heats is not as bad as people may have thought but i still miss my snow.

10-11-2002, 11:52 AM
Ya's could alwys come over to Australia and try our hot and dry conditions. And if ya can't take the heat, there's always plenty of beer. :D

10-11-2002, 02:07 PM
Sounds good :thumb:

Arent there alot of houses that are built underground?

10-11-2002, 08:08 PM
You'll find those around the mining towns in the "Outback" (basically what any sane person would call a desert). ;)

10-11-2002, 09:18 PM
Well i'm not sane so I will call it the Outback :D
