I just installed a new Seagate Barracuda 40Gb 7200rpm 2Mb UDMA100, i scored 897 in pcmark 2002, is this ok for this kind of drive or should it perform better?

Its fine. Even though that test doesn't really prove anything its nothing more then just a simple number. But comparing that simple number to my 620 on my drive. Its definitly fine.

Or my friends Western Digital 40 GIG 7200RPM ATA 100. He got in the high 700's. See how much these different drives differ from each other so vilently? Even though they have similar buffer space and seektime and stuff like that. Infact I heard that with those "odd ball" numbers the western digital should score at about 1400 on that same scale. Meaning it outperforms scsi drives?
