Ok, ive had Photoshop7 since it first came out and i love it.
BUT
and those of you who use it will know what i talking about, ya know ya used to be able to scroll with the middle mouse button to zoom in or out, now you can only scroll til it fits the page, then the middle mouse button acts as a navigational tool and moves you up and down, not in and out. I know this sounds sexual, but stay with me. I want to know if there is a settings buttong i havent seen in my scouring of the controls menus that allows you to set the middle mouse button back to the way it was in ver6. Anyone?

Can't really help ya Jedi, I'm on 6 atm. I'm sure you've looked through the preferences?

Unfortunately, the only option you have for quickness, and ease is the Z key. That's the hotkey for the zoom cursor.. after you hit Z, it's just a simple click (zoom in), or alt-click (zoom out).

I know.. the lack of the scroll zoom sucks, but its a small price to pay for such a powerful program as PS7. I personally think they should have included the option to click down on the third mouse/scroll button to allow you to drag across the work area. It would make navigation from point A to B quicker. It's all about the user experience.

My tip to you, memorize the hotkeys.. makes use easier.

That actually sounds like the best idea all day. Ive asked my graphic design teacher and another one, and a guy i knwo who does it for a living, and their standard answer was something to the effect of "live with it"

You gotta a link (or tell me where it is in the Photoshop) where i can get a list of all the hot keys. The only one i currently use is shift when using the black arrow. Im too tired to go find anything right now because ive been working my a$$ off, and its late for me (10:15pm i know thats early for some of you) which is why im asking.....

Try this...

- Middle mouse button (wheel) = scroll up and down if the picture is larger than your screen!

- Middle mouse button (wheel) = zoom in and out if the picture is smaller than your screen!

- CTRL + Middle mouse button (wheel) = scroll left and right if the picture is larger than your screen!

- ALT + Middle mouse button (wheel) = zoom in and out if the picture is larger than your screen!

As a matter of fact, check this site. It has PS7, PS6, and PS5 hotkey listings. Plus it's a beautiful site, and a good resource.

Be aware though, that this list is HUGE.

joeriswa: Thanks for the tip on that (from me anyways, I didn't catch that one before). Except, that the middle mouse button (wheel) to zoom in and out no longer works in PS7 without holding ALT first.

There are quite a few more, but these should at least get you started. jls has taught me quite a bit. As a matter of fact, I created this as a result of a few tutorials (like the Straight Line Pattern tutorial)...
