ASUS H81M-PLUS & i5-4690K / i7-4790K

Hi,

Does this board support these CPUs for overclocking (in the same way it does the G3258 to >4GHz which I currently have)?

Wondering about potential upgrade path, and these CPUs all share the same 1150 socket on the H81M-PLUS...

Hi, well I don't know what the Asus H81 series bios is like but I have G3258 on MSI H81m E33 and i've managed to overclock 4.2GHz with 1.120v but only get my 1600 memory running max at 1400 due to G3258 memory dividers, bios is very limited regarding overclocking, I also have Asus Maximus 7 Hero with 4790k and if your a serious overclocker you will love the Asus M7Hero bios it is the best overclockers bios around IMO...

Thanks Joe. I get a stable 4.2GHz on my ASUS H81M-PLUS too (though I need 1.222V using what ASUS gives it on Auto). Likewise my 1600 memory runs max @ 1400 is most I could squeeze out, though I think that's better than G3258's rated restriction of 1333. If it's any help to you, I got RAM timings down from 9-9-9-24 2T to 7-7-7-17 1T with tRFC 174 to compensate (by c25% and my understanding is this makes it about as fast at 1400 as 1600 is with 'stock' ratings, not that this does much real world, more an intellectual exercise).

Did you ever try to overclock your 4790K in the H81M? The reason I'm asking this Q is because I'm seeing this (Intel understandably looking to hobble the H81 for anything > than G3258) and worrying- last thing I want to do is buy a 4790K (when it gets <$100 on ebay ;-)) and find it won't overclock on my H81M-PLUS board...

Hehe, yes, Christmas at least when Intel will have its next bag of goodies out and those who just have to partake will be releasing what they were using. No hurry though, and for c100 the G3258 OC'ed and H81M-PLUS seems a steal for what I want- World of Tanks++.

Intel XTU- yes, and I use the benchmarking, but prefer the ASUS UEFI which I find pretty decent for OC work. For me and my 100 rig, 25 extra is 25% extra and kind of defeats object of cheap and cheerful, so no but nice to know for going forward and thanks.
