My friend just bought Hercules Radeon 9700 Pro. He replaced the old GeForce3 card with it.

Here's some specs:

AMD XP 2000+
768DDR
MSI K7T 266 PRO
HERCULES ATI RADEON 9700 PRO

He did fresh install of WindowsXP Pro and card is now up and running. It is however performing poorly considering 'the package' ...

Here's the link to his best 3D Mark score:

http://service.madonion.com/compare?2k1=5246341

When doing search and compare it is (by far?) the lowest score with 10419 there with similar systems. High being 12402 points.

He has installed all the latest drivers for mobo, via chip and the videocard.

Bios is the latest revision and should be optimized, only fast write doesn't seem to work even its turned on from bios.

Is this something he should not worry about and is being 2000 points behind a serious issue? Do you think the old (2 years) motherboard is the weakist link here.

All input welcome. And thanks for taking time to read this.

Cheers!

has he fully removed the old nVidia drivers & removed all the nvidia registry settings?

That mobo uses the old KT266 chipset which didn't last long due to probs with it and the KT266A chipset quickly replacin' it so the prob could all be with the mobo. ;)

Thanks for answers. Well, seems that he ended up having some other trouble as well like random frozes and mouse dissappearings.
He took the card back to the shop, got another one which immeaditly gave him 1200 points more and seems to work ok.

So even chances are small, sometimes you do get lemons..
