Albinus
01-25-2002, 05:46 PM
OK, what's your opinion Sov??? :D

Slamo
01-25-2002, 05:59 PM
didn't they drop their cap to 1gb or something

Albinus
01-25-2002, 06:03 PM
No - they raised the $$$ on their 3GB plan - on both ADSL and cable, but more so cable

Bahamut Zer0

You gotta give em something- they have balls.

what with the ACCC already on their back and all...

Wiggo
01-25-2002, 06:43 PM
I'm glad that I picked Optus otherwise I'd be up for at least $340aus p/m and have inferior speed and even with their 10Gb plan that would less than half of what I'm allowed now and I only pay $64aus p/m. :shoot: Hell$tra :snip:

Hehe

My opinion is they are trying to rob the users blind before they are forced to sell off exchange space to Optus, Dingoblue and Primus.

All I can say is if I had a choice of Broadband I know where I would be going.

Wiggo
01-25-2002, 07:36 PM
Now I wonder who that would be? :?:

Kay

Let me guess :?: :?: T.....nope.....$el.........nope it would have to be Optus with Wiggo replying :D

Albinus

I couldn't live with a 650MB download limit Sis - I downloaded 1.9GB last month, pretty average for me (on dialup that is)

Wiggo's-sister
01-26-2002, 09:19 AM
It's not so bad, have only gone over the limit once so far.
I do download a bit of music, however keep well within my limits

We'll probably end up moving somewhere where we can get Optus cable.

Andy
01-26-2002, 10:24 AM

Wiggo

I certainly can. :hmph:

Albinus
01-26-2002, 03:32 PM
Well, on the 3GB cable plan (which costs A$87.95/month), it works out that each MB (remember a GB according to Hel$tra is 1000MB) costs 2.93c. But hang on - for each MB over that they want to charge 13.90c!!! It isn't costing them that much - they are making 450% profit on it!!!

And ADSL..... don't even get me started on that..... I'm just glad I decided against it :)

Wiggo
01-26-2002, 04:15 PM
Well have ago at their pricin' difference between Cable and ADSL when ya consider that ADSL is capped lower and it spends quite a lot of time bein' down. :angryfire

Wiggo
01-26-2002, 04:30 PM
Well put it this wat for $1aus more than I pay ya get the 1gig (1000MB's) plan which is slower than Optus' service and I could go over in a day or so. :(
And they call bank robbers crooks.

Wiggo

Actually I just been on the phone to Optus and check the average user rates which atm is 65-70MB's a day which working on my netstats which is at 2.8 I'm d/lin' about 5.33GB's p/m but a person could atm get away with 18GB's p/m. The average user about a year ago was usin' between 100-105MB's a day which then let ya get away with about 26.5GB's. I've passed the info on to Albinus ;)

Gee thanks guys *embarrassed*

I was expecting my inbox to be mailbombed from Telstra or something, but not a single email related to the article :D

Hopefully this will expose the truths about the issue, that's all I was intending to do. Not to say "Telstra broadband sucks!!!", just providing the facts :)

Bahamut Zer0
01-27-2002, 09:53 AM
I think you should expand on how their landline & long distance charges have gone up over the past few months/year as well.

A few people overseas that i talk to about australias crappy broadband acess are under the impression that telstra is just a company that screws over a select bunch of indivuduals.

Albinus
01-27-2002, 11:47 AM
You do have a very valid point there BZ, but I felt that I should only briefly touch on the phone side of things, as this was meant to be about broadband.

Good idea though - maybe in the future if they decide to do something stupid again I may make mention of it

Wiggo
01-27-2002, 11:50 AM
Well I voted against Hell$tra with my wallet as Optus get's all my business and the only service of their's that I don't use is their mobile network and that's probably seein' as I don't have a mobile phone. ;)

Albinus
01-27-2002, 11:52 AM
Well Wiggo, at our house (containing my mother and myself - the cat doesn't use the phone) ;) we have a mobile each with Optus, and the dialup Internet is with Optus. If Telstra dare raise prices again, Mum has said we will be switching to Optus for the landline phone as well - let's hope they offer local calls over the copper wires and not just their cable network (we can't get that connected)

Wiggo
01-27-2002, 11:55 AM
Jump now as our phone bill went down about 20% over the Hell$tra service. ;)

Albinus
01-27-2002, 11:58 AM
We get our bill monthly (instead of three-monthly) from Hel$tra and we were being billed in excess of $150 for local calls per month!!!

So we pay $3.30 to get the bill itemised for local calls, and our bill dropped to $60 for local calls the next month and has stayed at that level ever since ;)

Slamo

Well I just checked out OCAU's forums, and they seem to be very supportive as well - I hope the article gets more international linkage so that we can (hopefully) get Telstra to realise that their consumers aren't happy.

The support keeps on rolling in via email, friends have called me on my mobile (at peak call rates) to offer encouragement, ICQ and MSN have gone ballistic, with strangers sending messages... thanks guys - you have made this a success. I've been getting *&%($loads of support from everywhere - so thanks again guys!!! And now the Queensland government is involved, they are threatening to cancel the Internet contract for North Queensland if Telstra don't introduce more reasonable pricing :shoot3:
