  • Duron 1.3GHz incompatability

i just purchased a 1.3Ghz duron (morgan core). i have a Abit KT7a motherboard, (KT133a chipset). the manual states that it supports up to 1.2ghz, and beyond, as long as it is on the 200mhz fsb.

i flashed the bios with the latest update from abit's website (kt7a9.exe). however after installing the CPU it would not post. The HDD will spin up, everything starts up, but there is no beep. i have tried it 3-4 times, as well as clearing the BIOS, as well as checking internal connections etc.

is it my kt7a motherboard cannot support the new 1.3 Duron? i was under the impression it could be before i purchased.

    what could be the problem?

    appreciated

It's that you can use a "Spitfire" core but not a "Morgan" core (unless there's a BIOS update) as the added SSE instructions is what's stoppin' ya. ;)

      thanks wiggo anyways...

i managed to get it... i did not realise that the kt7a9.exe was a self extractor...it extracted a heap of files, i thought it just flashed it like that.

i did manage to get it working, like a pearl! :D
