Monitor changing color

i have viewsonic a70f and sometime the monitor change color. the screen become greenish. this happend when the pc is on.

maybe a long shot from left field, but you wouldn't happen to have one of those cooling fans on it, or a draft in that location would you?

i have two small speaker on the side that might be the cause

Mine did this... and if I tapped (hit) the side of it, it would clear up... for a bit. Bad monitor, time for a new one.:2cents:

if it happens occassionally, it can be just a small magnetic field getting developed across the monitor.
see that no unshielded speakers are near your monitor. the one speaker that has an inbuilt amplifier or the volume controls on it is the culprit most of the times. moving it a bit far away from the monitor might help.
try switching off and then switching the monitor on to remove the magnetic fields, if any!
if everything fails, try degaussing the monitor. it can be done from a button with a small "horse-shoe" shaped magnet engraved on it. refrain from doing it often.

im sorry but using degaussing on your monitor will not harm it in any way shape or form in fact most newer monitors do it automatically every time they turn on

degaussing a CRT monitor is a good idea... since it is designed to clear any magnetic fields interfearing with the monitors operation... but here is the thing... if you monitor is changing colors, it could be one of three things...

1. CRT monitor is going bad (Tube's Ray Gun is shorting out) (buildup of dust can cause this as well as high heat)

2. Cable from Monitor to PC could have a short... this would cause your your monitor to only display one color of the RGB spectrum.

3. Your graphics card could be acting up. Sometimes a graphics card will have a short or some kind of problem either with the plug (where you plug in the monitor) or with the chipset where it will not be able to produce the right signal for the colors...


If possible, plug the monitor into another computer and see what happens... if it still turns red or whatever, then you have disqualified # 3. Then check the cable on the monitor... see if any pins are bent or wearing down... if your monitor has a replacable cable (most do not) then try and replace it and see if that works... last, if nothing else, buy a new monitor... they are really cheap now for CRT monitors... look on ebay and get one that brand new... not used.... Viewsonic is one of the best... they also have a version called Optiquest which is made by Viewsonic, but is the cheaper brand... or you could upgrade to LCD
