  • Northwood + Dragon Ultra

Using the default BIOS settings on my new rig, I'm getting a CPU clock speed of 1.99ghz with temps of 34C/50C. How disappointing.
Any pointers on some overclock settings (air cooled)? Let's say some mild and then less mild settings?

    Here's my system:
    -----------------------
    P4 2.0a Northwood
    Soyo Dragon Ultra (SIS645) mobo
    512mb PC2700 ddr sdram
    ATI AIW 8500DV <= baby!
    HP i1000 DVD+RW
    420W PS
Logitech Cordless Freedom Optical <= best thing I've ever bought!
    ------------------------

The Soyo Dragon Ultra has a ton of overclock settings. Here are a few:

    CPU:DRAM Clock Ratio (1:1, 3:4, 3:5, 4:3, 4:5)
    CPU Clock (Min:100, Max:255)

    CPU Vcore select (1.1 - 1.85)
    DDR Voltage select (2.6 - 3.5)

Well your temps aren't too bad... mine are around the same and I have a 1.7GHz Willamette. The Northwood + SiS645 is an extremely potent mix, because the P4 is clock locked your only recourse is to up the FSB - and the SiS (apparantly) does this very well.

I would try jacking up the FSB about 3MHz at a time, until you find your limit. Be wary of heat though - if the Pentium 4 gets much above 80C clock throttling will kick in and slow down your CPU - not wanted :thumbs do

Oh - and here's a pic to prove the temps ;)

No MySTiCuSS, this is an Intel motherboard I'm testing at the moment - the Intel D845WN to be exact ;)

So it's limited to Intel motherboards I'm afraid :(
