Well the UD stats are up ATM.
Always nice to see the numbers going up:clap:

On a personal note -- I have completed over 600 work units! YeeHaw! Took over 201 days, and stilll plugging along.

If you click the "Top 500" link in my sig it will take you to the Statsman page for our team.
I've watched us go from number 534 to 492 -- anxious to see how we are doing, now that UD stats are working again.

There are over 20,000 teams -- so the top 500 is pretty respectable I think :thumb:

Just a few points seperate teams at this level, so crunch away folks -- your doing a fine job:D

I think the only reason that Wiggo wants to look for his relo's is to see if they like beer

And yes Charles - I now have my new Pentium 4 system up and running, which means that those cancer molecules are gonna get creamed big time now  :thumb: :toung:

YES!
If you go to Statsmans top 1000 UD teams (http://www.statsman.org/udstats/html/) list, you will see we are up to #469. That's a pretty fair jump.

Grim, wouldn't that be coolest if we do find a cure.

We are still 2,402 points behind the ??? Iran Tourism ??? team --crunch away gang
:hammer:

Wiggo: when those ET's want to be found by us, they will be -- but not until. We'd sure like to have you on this team till they make a formal appearance.

LOL - He is dedicated to the cause, that's for sure!
According to Statsman he is 49.01% of our team. Compare that to my lowly 4.25%, I look pretty sadly.
But hey, I'm dedicated too! Just not as many machines to dedicate.

He still needs us for the other 50.99% for a little while at least :?:

Mr. C

The results wouldn't be as productive as our modern machines though....

I've said it before; "Every little bit counts!"

I just wish I had a couple more monitors. My KVM doesn't really allow switching, as it is a cheap bastage and my old mobo's don't recognize input devices properly without a reboot.

There's a gal I used to work with that for a year has been gonna' give me her dads old system, maybe I ought'a hound her about it, but I'm not comfortable demanding she give it to me now. LOL

Still, that would give me a 14" monitor to put with the ol' 200MMX.

All you need is Win 95 and the latest DUN patch to run UD -- with a modem of course. Memory of course is nice, but there are some dudes in the UD forum who are cranking WU with some machines that are sorry by todays standards.
What am I saying?? My machine is sorry by todays standards:cry:

hmmm....
I need less than 1,000 points to bump off Andy for a top 10 spot...:D

I don't know if anyone has had the need to find this out, but I thought I would just pass it on. This info comes from tinkering with my puters so much lately.

When my old PC went to pieces (til I can rebuild its home) I just saved the UD folder inside the Program Files folder. After I had everything set up on the new puter, I did a fresh install of UD. I just ignored all the registration stuff and copied the files in the old UD folder to the UD folder in the new puter and it picked up where the other puter left off. Not a hitch to speak of. So I didn't lose the crunch time that the other puter had devoted. I was kind of happy about that. I had already lost a few partial crunches before I thought of that.

Hope that is of some use to someone. :)

Thanks for pointing that out JealousMidget
We had a few tips in the old forum, but it all needs to be brought into this new one now.

As for points -- well Kheldar darn near whups the rest of us put together. (in fact by this time he well might )

I have 45,726 total, 35,644 of which go to the team total
At least 613 WU's completed, probably 614 looking at the update time on my stats.

No Great shakes, but thats 202 days; 23 hours; 44 minutes; 36 seconds of processing on a PIII 600EB

Keeping my head above 30,000 in all the stats - not bad for near 1 million participants.

A question for Mr. C:

What is the URL for that program that allows you to queue UD packets of data? My Pentium 4 is processing a packet in under 2 hours, and I can't afford the dialup charges all the time LOL :toung:

The one I was hearing the most about was UD Monitor.
Unfortunately, I am absolutely unable to connect to it at this time??? Just keep getting some page in Russian???

There is an alternative I think, called UD Tweaker (http://home.talkcity.com/ComputerCt/blakenyc77/software.html) that also can enable caching work units, as well as a few other features.

Be advised, it is also supposed to be able to allow more than one UD Agent to run on multiple processor systems. If you have a dual proccessor system, I would encourage you to play it safe and not do so - there seems to be some question of WU "contamination" among the UD staff when using this feature.

The link for UD monitor is HERE (http://distributed.fromru.com/udprog-e.htm) maybe it will be working later?

Perhaps a little rivalry within the team could be a good thing for us all.
Poor Moose hasn't turned in a work unit in ages:(
What's up with that Moose? You were really coming on strong for the cause there at first!
Not my place to tell you what to do with your computer - but we certainly appreciated what you were doing for the team, as well as the project.

have you sought any help in the UD forum?
There's a lot of good info in there.
If you can nail down the problem, there are some very knowledgable folks that would be happy to help.

Just start in the FAQ's and work your way in, till you get it worked out.

plenty of pc's there :)

Kheldar
12-05-2001, 10:16 AM
Bendigo Hospital

we estimate around 700 computers

however about 100 of em are remote so can't UD em

which leaves me 600 to put UD on

I think I've got about 200 Active machines (ie returns at least one result every 7 days)

our minimum SUPPORTED pc's are PII 350 and above
Our current PC's are PIII 1000, 256 Meg Ram TNT2 win2k 20G HD and all our new PC's get UD put on as part of our standard operating environment

I hated that!!

Is UD pushing you the updates when you UL & DL a workunit?

I'm running verion 1.03g(2617) it pretty much saves after each percentage is completed.
Right handy when you need to reboot too, saves having to wait for a WU to complete.
It'd be great if they could put a "Save" button in the interface for you folks that don't crunch 24/7.

If you still have it installed on another machine, we'll be glad to help get the agent transferred to your new rig.
Or if you prefer, just start over, that will make it easier to keep track of what your 'puter has accomplished.

As long as you remember your user name and password, you can get back up under your same ID.

No real rhyme or reason to how long a WU takes, I've observed 1 hour 20 minutes to 60+ hours for a result.
That's all on the same machine - just the luck of the draw.

Check in the UD Forum (http://forum.ud.com/ubbcgi/Ultimatebb.cgi), particularly some of those long running molecule threads.

There are participants who have crunched the same WU for over a month in cases:eek:
I salute them for their dedication to the cause:angel:

I didn't realize they could take thaty long. I usually chew them up in a couple hours or so. If it took more than a couple days, I would probably assume that something was wrong. Over a month to crunch is a lot of dedication.

Those would actually be the target protiens, the molecule would be identified in the larger panel on the right.

Actually those are pretty much the protiens everyone is seeing, just different molecules are being tested against them.

Last weekend I got one of those VGEF protiens - took over 40 hours on that rascal. No returns for a whole day, but I got a nice point increase when it showed up in the stats, nearly 900:smokin:

I have been crunching the same molecule for 35 hours, so that should be good for a few points to come back on Andy.

Working on other comp, maybe someday, I will finish it. Then it too will be crunching away.

Mr. C. is the goal 400 by Christmas?

Cheers

Cheers

Well, that's what it's gonna' take to change my sig anyway.
Top 450 just doesn't sound as good as Top 400 I think.

And yes, those longer work units do make nice points.

LOL sounds like Andy and yourself have a real battle going there, I enjoy that fella's - good for the cause & the team:thumb:

I think UD would be the perfect first test for your new computer JealousMidget:clap:

Actually, the new computer is crunching away. It's the old one that is sprawled all across my table. Trying to upgrade and generally make happier. :D

Hope to finish after Christmas, since I will be away around the holidays.
Then I will be a force to reconed with! :D  :cackle:  :cackle:

Cheers

Albinus, i thought p4's don't get THAT hot, is it 60 degrees C cause then that would be HOT
try remounting the fan and adding some artic

cruching away:p

Aznx, if you saw my post in the Cooling Forum, then if you clicked the link you would have noticed that my temperatures aren't too bad - there are people there whose CPUs are idling at 50 degrees and 80 degrees under load.

So I'm crunching away again :D

Andy
12-12-2001, 01:59 PM
try 69 hrs..... on a p166 mind you (my device stacks up at 13, compared to the p4 "benchmark"), but anyway, its still going at it
and its got one of those superoxide dismutase mocecules in it :p

Andy and JealousMidget sure seem to enjoy their little competition.

I encourage you to take up the cause again cybermick.
I don't promise you a lot of fun, but I do find it to be something I take a good deal of pride in. Participating with the team is the enjoyable part.

UD - Probably the best thing my computer will ever do.

Roger that:thumb:
Just got home to see this new target - if it were an inkblot test, I'd say it looks like a Jabberwock:laugh:

Albinus: any new word on your situation:?:
Have to take into account monitoring hardware placement, accuracy, and all the other factors which can contribute to your readings of course.

I'm processing that one right now - up to 20 hours - 73% done

Albinus
12-13-2001, 08:24 AM
Well my CPU is stable at 60 degrees, so I'm back madly crunching with UD - and I believe it's also optimised for SSE2 so that will make it even more effective ;)

Mr. C
12-13-2001, 08:41 AM
Nothing like a little UD optimization:thumb:

I don't recall how long it took to do my Jabberwock molecule? Fairly sure it was a little over 20 hours:?:

Got me some HITS on that rascal too:clap:

Hee Hee - we're gonna' pulverize this ugly ol' protien:hammer:

Folks,
I don't know if any of you have spent much time over at the UD Forum. If you have, you very well may have run across a very special person there by the name of Glenellen. He has been a true beacon to the community there - and to all of us "privateer cure seekers".

I am deeply saddened to say that Glenellen is not doing well.
It would be very nice if you could take a little time to post a word or 2 of encouragement to him and his family.

http://forum.ud.com/ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=4&t=001085&p=

Glenellen truly is a special person

Except of course when occasionally the wife is on the phone when UD tries to connect.

Mr. C
12-22-2001, 07:24 AM
aznx, I believe Albinus is referring to the fact that the UD program is written to achieve optimal performance using SSE2.
That's the way they coded it - nothing to do with which may or may not be better.

Albinus
12-22-2001, 12:57 PM
I rest my case.........

Everyone is coding for SSE/SSE2, 3DNow! is dead. Why else would AMD license SSE if 3DNow! was so popular
SSE2 = Pentium 4's FPU performance in the stratosphere :D

And yes UD is optimised for SSE2 :p

The TweakTown team is now #374 in the UD heirarchy.

I was made aware of a revolting development this weekend, the UD Agent is no longer compatible with Windows95. At this time I have had to abandon any hope of getting a second system crunching.

My friend has an IBM Thinkpad with 24MB, but a Pentium 150MHz CPU. It runs Windows 98SE allright, a bit slow but it runs nonetheless. :)

Why don't you try it and see how it goes :thumb:

I gave it about 6 or 7 tries, no dice yet. :angryfire :?:

The TweakTown team is now #374 in the UD heirarchy.

I was made aware of a revolting development this weekend, the UD Agent is no longer compatible with Windows95. At this time I have had to abandon any hope of getting a second system crunching.

Unless someone knows how to get an EZ-Book 700 with 200MMX and 24 Mb's of RAM to run Win98 SE?

however it will still run under win95 - just gives you a warning message

Mr. C

so there is hope??
WhooHoo!!

3DNow! is intel's mmx instructions. haha. but!, my 900 at home here cranks out more units that my ****ty p4 1.5ghz at work...(didnt we already discuss this?) :D:D

Well for crying out loud Wiz!!
Don't you know that everything at your work was provided by the lowest bidder?????
No wonder it's a P.O.S.!?
Just pray you never have to go to war with any of that government contracted stuff:hmph:

Holy Buckets!!
Am I the only one that remembers where this thread is??

Anyhow, Just got the Win98 SE on the highly underpowered laptop very early this am. I got the same error messages as the other times I tried, but was able somehow to work around that hub-bub. (I think that not allowing the OS to load 32 bit drivers for the PCMCIA may have helped some too.)

Anyway, UD is blazing merrily away on that P200mmx with 24Mb's of RAM. Yeah like that's gonna' blaze - it heats up, but it don't blaze:laugh:
Darn thing has a whopping overall performance rating of 23:eek:
Crunched for over 9 hours for a whopping 26 points:cry:
But, that's one work unit you guys won't have to mess with - all done - No that's OK, no thanks necessary really, I was happy to do it:angel:

OK folks, heads up, the UD servers are going to be shut down for 4 hours tomorrow (or today depending on your location:D ).
Based on past experience, 12-14 hours is probably more like it:(
Followed of course by a few hours of being unable to connect because of the high volume of traffic pounding the server when it comes back online.:hammer:

So you lucky devils with the foresight to use UD Monitor can continue to produce, while the rest of us sit dead in the water if we're caught with a finished WU and no place to send it.
Hint - Albinus:thumb:

And Albinus, I have a favor to ask:angel:
For some reason on the team homepage at UD, the TT logo isn't showing up. I'm not sure, but maybe that logo doesn't appear on the TT server anymore - or perhaps it was renamed, or a different filepath??
Anyhow, I would appreciate it if after things normalize on the UD end of things, if you could get the logo to appear properly. It just looks so terribly unproffessional having that little x in there.
Thanks Al!
I'd do it myself if I could, but I figure you are the only one probably with access to both TT and the UD team page:?:

hehe yeah i STILL do know this thred is here.. just no one really posts much in it hehe... and thanks for crunchin that one for us man.. i dont think we could do it without you ;) ;)

but every little bit counts :) i got UD running on a celeron 366 here .. that is the only purpose of it.. to run UD.. does not even get used for anything else. apart from it uses up the damn power   hehe but it is all good

also i will be chasing for 4th place soon :) nearly there.. not too many days to go ... and then 3rd here we come.. (i hope lol) hehe

whats wrong is the pic is lonked to /images/logo.gif, and that must have been deleted or something, so all you have to do is re link it with the new tt logo

You're right Andy, but unfortunately there is no facility for me to change it once the team has been created :(

Woody

carnt you just create that file in the same location??

I could if I had FTP access to the server :hmph:

Unless some nice person would like to do it for me

Wow!!
Signs of life in here- LOL

Easy enough for the Webmaster to put the logo back on the server, if someone can notify him.
I'm sure he didn't realize that the team page was using it still.

Was it logo gif, or jpg?

Woody
01-14-2002, 06:53 PM
not sure weather it was jpg or gif.. but like cannot check at the moment.. stupid homepage still isnt not wokring yet.. damn taking there time updating it lol

Mr. C
01-15-2002, 09:54 AM
The file is listed as http://www.tweaktown.com/images/logo.jpg on the UD site, reckon you could put a graphic back on the server at that location --- Mr. Tweak?

Mr. C

Correct JealousMidget, hopefully Mr. Tweak will check out this thread soon and get a file at /images/logo.jpg that way nothing will need to be changed at the team homepage - cause I don't even know if the team homepage can be changed after it is set-up.
I mean, it's not a big deal - but it does look damn unproffessional:(

That must be it Andy.

And it's a .jpg that is required for the team page, not a gif.

But we conformed so well to the intricacies of it's inadequacies that we got the job done just the same:D
It'd be a shame to throw away such hard earned skills:laugh:

Just 97,000 points? ---- Easy for you to say!!:?:

Work that cute little CPU Andy!:thumb:

Albinus
01-19-2002, 01:38 PM
Well the one I am working one (pictured above) is proving to be very consistent in terms of speed - unlike the others which speed up and slow down during processing this molecule seems to be crunching at a sturdy pace :thumb:

JealousMidget
01-19-2002, 01:48 PM
I don't usually pay attention. I just let the CPU do it's thing.

Mr. C
01-19-2002, 11:06 PM
Uh-oh nothing!!
You show this mofo protein no mercy JM!
I guaran-damn-tee you that it would show you no mercy if the tables were turned.

My little brother hasn't eaten this year because of cancer protiens like the ones we have been crunching!
They delivered a hospital bed, bed table, and wheelchair to his house yesterday morning.
Cancer is merciless, and not even smart - it destroys the host organism (ie. people, just like you and me) and thereby kills even itself. Be quite nice, if the cancer was the only thing that had to die.

No, running UD isn't going to save my brother, he is starving to death and no one can do anything about it. Yes, I do believe in miracles - but have yet to hear of a regeneration of the entire gastro-intestinal tract.

I truly hope this project will someday lead to treatments/cures that will prevent others from suffering the way he is ATM.

(sorry JM, not picking on you dude --- "uh-oh" just kinda' set me off a bit. Had to get that off my chest for some reason this morning)

/RANT

Keep at it guys - there is a huge community out there that has a lot of faith placed in what we are doing. I will do everything within my power to not let them down.

JealousMidget

I know your with us JM. I didn't realize just how much!

I wasn't ragging on you -- I just needed to vent. I probably chose the wrong forum, but I guess I just felt comfortable venting here with you guys.

I'm right here with you guys - keeping the faith.
